I figure I'll wait a couple of days for the 850. Even though the speed is similar, I think I'd rather have a new part that's a later generation.

I would have bought the card first, and the combo second.

The x800 xl is still available. Go with that one.

Used x800xl with no hope of much of a overclock versus a brand new unlockable X850XT PE for the same price?! Nah, no loss there!

The XL is a distant second choice.

You can't as of Tuesday. That's the point.

The X850pro unlocks to a X850XT PE when you load the appropriate bios. That, and it was new. But as of Tuesday, ATI took down the listing. It's not just out of stock, the listing is GONE completely.

But if you're looking for one, that's ok. On Ebay you'll find a sudden large spike in the number of AGP X850pros being sold for more then what ATI was charging.

Hate to say it, but this is not necessarily true. Yes, the early batches of x850 pro's could be unlocked. The newer ones have either laser-cut bridges or are die-locked. Still a good card for the price, esp considering that most AGP cards carry a price premium over PCI-E cards these days.

For me, it wasn't worth the risk when you can the AIW x800XT for $10 more.

I'm still waiting to hear if they are going to be able to fill my order for
the x850 pro. I got my order in but it was listed as out of stock.

Are you sure this statement is true for the AGP cards?

Has anyone received the x850 pro from ATI clearence sale and modded the bios sucessfully?

I thought the cards that were altered were PCI-E only.

I was thinking about canceling my order and buying the AIW x800XT but I heard it was loud and ran very hot.

There's not much of a difference with the X800XL from the X850 Pro, to my understanding. Someone correct me on this?

Well, the x850 is slightly newer technology. Also, the x850 was a new item while the x800xl was a refurb.

Why not do the trade up for an x800 xt? It's significantly faster than either one of these.

It's not worth trading my X800XL + $129 for though... and I sold my old Radeon 9600XT already, guess there's no choice. I love the feeling of getting something only knowing that you could have gotten something better next week for the same price Ahh well, technology is like a rental, you pay for the amount of time you have it until the price drops.

You don't have any other card? The one I'm trading in is either a Rage128 or an @gamer 98. I can't remember. They're take absolutely anything.

When you submit your order, does it tell you it was accepted or what? Whenever I try it, it just goes to a "no items are in your basket" screen. Also, I have received no other emails and nothing shows up when I check the order history of my account. Does it take several hours to get a confirmation of the order, or am I doing something wrong?

Sorry to hear that...

Perhaps my getting screwed was for the best.

I'm now getting the AGP X800XT AIOW instead.

Yeah, if you do the trade-up program the X800XT AIW IS a better deal (more bang for the buck). Dang, I just checked out my order history and I barely missed the 30 day return policy to return my X800XL. I jumped the gun on that deal.

It's ok though, I'm pretty happy with it. Games look terrific. Now I'm just thinking of getting a quieter fan! This sucker's a lot louder than my old 8500LE!

I got the X850 Pro and mine does not appear to be unlockable to 16 pipes, per the following I found online:

To determine if your ATI card is capable of unlocking the extra 4 pipes, you need of course the ATI Tool to determine both your Die and Substrate Fuse configurations. Once done, this is what they should display in order to determine whether your card can be moldable to 16 pipes:

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES:xxxxFxxx
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES:xxxxxxxF

Whereby 'F' denotes 16 pipe capable within the Config Die Fuse, whilst the 'F' denotes "NOT Laser Cut" within the substrate fuse.

Given BOTH: your card is moddable for 16 pipes with a simple bios flash

Return it and get the X800 XT trade up for 129 That's what I'm doing with my X800 XL hehe

Anyone know if the difference between the X800 XT and X800 XT PE is just the clock speeds? Also, would it be possible to flash the X800 XT to a X850 XT PE?

I bought the X850 Pro and mine is unlockable according to the same guideline that Piblokto mentioned above. I haven't tried flashing it yet. I read somewhere that you also need the 16 memory chips. The one I got has the 20 chips instead. Does that make any difference for the pipes? Or just for the overclocking of the core/memory?

I think the only difference is the clock speeds. The PE adds 20MHz to each.

Hey I just ordered the X800 XT AIW from the tradeup section. The price is $179 minus $50 bucks after I send in another Video Card. That includes the shipping and tax so the overall price is $129. Go to http://shop.ati.com/tradeup.asp to see it and look at the tradeup requirements. Also the X800 XT isn't far off from the X850 XT and you don't have to risk the X850 pro mod or locked pipes. Plus this is a new unit with 3 year warranty another bonus.

I just got off of the phone with CS at ATI.

The AIW x800xt card is listed as being in stock but the CS rep. told me they are out of

stock and on back order.

Damn I just got off with CS and they confirmed it is out of stock. I was told it should be shipped by the end of the month. My 9700 pro went down and I guess I am stuck with my ti4600 back-up for now. That Sux .
