Ok, I jump to this deal, finally.
I just need to come up a excuse to my wife, why there is a extra box setting on top of my VCR.
This is the first time I'll own such device, I heard a lot of good thing about it, hope it won't let me down.

As far as networking goes, you can either connect to your network via regular ethernet cables, but if you want to connect to a wirelss network, you must either use a wireless bridge or a wireless access point connected to the network jack. The USB port is not supported yet, so you cannot use a regular USB wireless adapter.

The only downfall with using wireless is that the bandwidth will not lend itself to streaming files to other RTVs or DVArchive. I ended up just running another network cable to my 5040.

This deal is very good, especially with the fees going up in a few days. The more 5000 series owners, the better. More people to share shows with

You'll find that the record quality plays a much bigger role in streaming than anything else. I can barely stream "high" quality over a 100mbs wired connection. If the replay is doing ANYTHING, it gets very choppy and out of sync. I can stream "medium" quality shows just fine when the replay is turned off. (You turn the unit off, but can still access it via your computer.)

Ok, thanks. Can you also just copy shows back and forth as needed -- using the PC as an offline storage? I'm thinking I'd just pull stuff off of the Replay before it fills up since I have the disk space to spare on the PC.

dvarchive is what you're looking for... Check the AVS forums or PlanetReplay as well.

Don't fret. When I called SonicBlue this morning, they told me that 1 shipment has already been shipped and the second order #440xxx is about to be shipped. When I got home, lo and behold, 1 package. I guess the second one will be here soon.

Arrived today--order#422xxx.Ordered 5-25-03.It appears new--at least all the accessories are in their original and unopened bags. The unit itself is perfect cosmetically. The only thing that makes me think it might be a refurb is that there was a rubberband on the powercord. I'm installing it now so I'll report back any problems.Sure wish the wireless USB worked but hopefully before long. Looks like my kid will have to sacrifice his WET-11 from his PS2.
Actually I'll probably use the phone line until they get the wireless usb figured out.

So far so good.

My order # 44145X was shipped Tuesday and should arrive tomorrow. But, not a word/e-mail from SonicBlue about the shipment. I need to be able to head off the UPS/Fedex guys to make sure I get it.

You probably know that once you break the little paper seal on the unit & open it up, you void the warranty.

If you're not aware, there's a wealth of info here at the Audio Video Science Forum, and if it weren't for this forum, I wouldn't have even know about the sale let alone save 15%, so thanks posters!
