Refurbed Dell 8400 3ghz @ $499 vs AMD DIY build.

Well, I have built every computer I have ever owned myself except for my TSR line and My Commodore line (64, and Amiga 500).

I went with Dell a few days ago. Why would I do that you ask? A one Day sale they were running that gave 40% off anything off $2499.00.

For $1850.00 I got:

20.1" LCD
5.1 Klipsch Ultra Speakers
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Pentium 4 3.4 GHZ processr with HT
1 gig of dual channel 533 mhz ram
Nvidia Gforce 6800 GTO (less pipes and shaders than GT but I already unlocked them and have overclocked it to Ultra speeds, so it runs as an ultra now)

16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
$99.00 rebate for shipping (free shipping)
4 year at home service warranty
$60.00 Rebate for Warranty
So, actually, I could notck off another $150.00 if you count the rebates.

Am I happy? YEEEEEP.

Dell is my exception to building it yourself. I go DELL or build it myself. I like Alienware systems but they are so $$$.

The only thing I have noticed with Dell computers is that you can't slap any power supply into it - proprietary. But, you can get 2nd party ones all over the net.

I have also had problems with ASUS mobo's. But, I still buy them - nice boards.

Quiet ? at idle maybe, I am sitting in from of my work PC (2.4 ghz desktop small box, new, but I don;t know the model number) and is louder than my home Sonata with a 10k SCSI inside at full load. The fan is the noisy part (I am running F@H, thats what keeps the fan on). And this is my second motherboard on a 3 month old computer. Great quality ? I think NOT !

If it's 3 months old, call Dell and ask to replace the fan under warranty. It really should be quiet.

Every one on the floor does the same thing. Its not that noisey, (30dba ??) but noisier than my Sonata as I said. NOT silent like the posted above.

i was about to jump in that deal and it got canceled. That deal beat anything i see from dell deal so far
