Small Dog Electronics offers dealmac readers the factory-refurbished BenQ 46-inch Plasma Display with TV Tuner for $2,795. That's $100 off and about $250 less than the best price we've seen for a new, factory-sealed unit. Features include a 16:9 screen with a native resolution of 852x480, 850:1 contrast ratio, and component, composite, and analog PC inputs. A one-year BenQ warranty applies. Agreed, also note this is not an HDTV set. You can get a new plasma at the warehouse clubs for about the same price.

Me too neither. I would be very leary of a used or returned plasma monitor. I am not even sure I would go the way of plasma until things settled out a bit more on technology.

What do you mean by that? What needs to be settled? And how would it affect a buyer?

I looked into buying a plasma tv last year. Just note there is a huge difference in picture quality between manufacturers. If you want to do some research I suggest checking out avs forums. I would also suggest seeing one in person before buying. They are usually cheap for a reason.

I agree. Plasmas have lots of potential issues, and I would never get a refurb unit. The problems range from burnin, loss of brightness, degradation of colors, etc., and that is with a brand new unit. You are talking about a refurb that already is KNOWN to have had those problems and as a result is more likely to have them again. Unless you are getting a HUGE discount, I would not recommend buying it ("HUGE" as in 60% or more).

I'd check out all the reviews of plasma vs dlp vs lcos, vs rptv before making any purchases on this nature.

Besides is BenQ the manufacturer of these sets? Call me crazy, but I'd prefer to buy a brand that I've actually heard of.
