"...do these come with d-sub cables?"

That cable is permanently attached. The power cable is included.

I called them later in the day, I think it was Thursday, to see what their definition of "refurbished" was, and if they would be getting more of these monitors. To my horror, the fellow who answered spoke almost no English at all. I asked for Michael, and I believe he said Michael wasn't there. I have no idea why he even picked up the phone!

Just called and got a message that said the hours of operation for Mon - Fri and extensions for various people. Guess they're not open today.

I just received mine today. The poor FedEx guy didn't realize there were handles on the box. LOL, it was quite a struggle.

The monitor looks brand new. I could not find any blemishes. It was manufactured one year ago, in June 2003.

I was slightly disappointed to find there was no user manual. There was, however, a useless Quick User's Guide and a CD presumably with manual on it (haven't opened it yet). To be honest, monitor manuals are about the only paper manual I refer to. They come in handy when you need to enter horiz/vert ranges in your XF86Config file. I was happy to see that the Info button (on far left) provides this information, along with the S/N, current resolution and its current h/v rates.

The picture is good. Nothing extraordinary, but I am happy with it. It is obvious these use some form of Trinitron technology. You can see the two faint lines across the screen.

The geometry out of the box was decent, at least on my unit. I use it at 1600x1200 (@84Hz), and also have 1280x960, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 320x240 specified for fast [CTRL][ALT][+] zooming. All of these resolutions had reasonable preset geometry, which is not to say some couldn't use minor tweaking.

There are a crapload of adjustments possible within the menus:

- Position, Size, Zoom

- Parallel/Rotation, Pincushion/Trapezoid, Sidepin Corner, Pinbalance Corner

- Purity, Clear Moire, Linearity, Focus, Conversion

- 3 color presets, each with Temp settings and individual R,G,B levels

- and even Video Input Level

- plus more that don't directly affect the picture.

The thing I diskliked most, up until I received it, was the color scheme. I had never been too impressed with the colors HP has been using. Now that I have it on my desk (glass with some shade of champaign-silver metal) I love it. If they get more in stock and I have the money I will get another to replace the lame beige 17" applevision to my side. And a KVM to make my x86 box dual headed when not using the Mac. *drool*

Overall, this is a great monitor for the price! Thank you Ornery, for your bringing it to our attention!

Well, upon the suggestions of the good folk in this forum I got in on this deal. I received my monitor yesterday. This is a welcome purchase since my old Mag 19" had become a fuzzy fading mess.

I haven't had a chance to calibrate it yet, but out of the box the picture is fantastic. What really sold me was the relatively high refresh rates @ 1600x1200. It's hard to find a good deal on a quality CRT now that LCD's are so ubiquitous.

Good catch guys, thanks.

I bought the last one on Friday night
it came in Wensday on a Ryder rental truck
looks new, no scratches, date of June 2003 on back
the silver case that HP uses looks nice
I had to stretch the screen out and around some - easy
Im not a monitor expert but it looks good and smells new

Take care..............Rick

hmm... there is some moire issue here..
Upclose shot

Text is as sharp as dell LCDs in our student center (i actually reached in the back to see the model # but at no avail), i am assuming those were in 2001/1800FP class. but when it comes to colors, its not even an apples to oranges comparison (duh!) if you watch LOTS of anime (or movies if thats your thing) like me, go out and get a NF diamondtron NOW, LCDs - the current crop at least - will never even come close.

I can say I wasnt so lucky folks. I purchased two of these puppies, and only checked one of them out. I just got around to checking out the other and the screen fluctuates in and out a bit, and the picture quality is relatively piss poor. I have tried resetting my videocard back to default settings and working with the refresh rates to no availe...now I think Im going to have to either send it back, and puchase another, or get these guys to replace it with a restocking fee. Eitherway, it looks as though Im going to have to pay, one way or another.

Bah! Curse my good nature!

I thought these have a 1 year factory warranty from HP. HP doesn't charge you for shipping items back, AFAIK.

Update 08-08-04: I've been waiting and waiting for one more unit to become available, but no luck. You guys cleaned 'em out! One odd one came in on July 8th, so I snagged it. It was my second, and performed as well as my first, which is spectacular! I poked around their site today and found the COMPAQ S9500, which is the identical unit. I ordered that for $119.00 and $18.00 shipping. I expect to see it here about Wednesday. There are still 72 units left. I expect to see you all clear them out by next week!

BTW, I contacted wnied via PM, and asked if they resolved his issue. I hope he doesn't mind me posting his reply:
  • I'll tell you what, if I ever need another refurbished monitor...I am buying it from these people! I emailed their customer service dept, and received a reply the next day. I called the person who replied to my request, and talked to a guy named Jeff. He asked me what the problems were, and then emailed me out a return label through UPS. I had my replacement monitor in LESS than a week!! So yes, my issue was resolved, and these people can add me to their satisfied customer list.

    Hope this helps ya.

np, i looked all over the web trying to check if its their mistake... dont you hate it when they only list it as 'flat screen' and dont tell you whether its AG or SM :|

t was ALL my mistake. When I talked to the owner by phone in May, they had the P930 as well as a Compaq model listed with the same specs, but $10.00 less. I asked what the difference was, and he told me that the Compaq was pre merger, and that he'd give me the HP for the same price. I assumed the S9500 was the same unit we spoke about back then, but it wasn't. I sent them emails to cancel the order. I hope I got to them in time...

quick googling shows it uses the infamous dynaflat tube. while it is ok for regular use, dynaflats can never come close to AG tubes like diamondtron and trinitron.

Man, that's $ 171.87 shipped, VS $147.37 for the other two I got. This one's a pig in the poke, and these others are known good stock. You buy it and let me know. Maybe I'll get one, but it sure as hell isn't the hot deal I've been waiting for.

$147.37 including shipping. I got my first one for $10.00 less than that.

On the one hand, I'm glad I bumped this, so Sam could warn me about screwing up. On the other hand, I now have a REALLY fat chance of getting the one random P930 that finally trickles in...

looks like you guys got a really good deal. I have a NEC/Mitsu DP930 on order from Dell and it was on sale + free shipping. Came out to $310 after taxes. I would buy this one but there are no more left.

The NEC/Mitsu says it can do 1920x1440 at 73Hz. Have any of you guys tried this on your monitors? What do you think?

I have a 6 year old Dell P990 (19" Trinitron) that does 1600x1200 @75Hz and it looks excellent at that resolution. I was hoping this one could do higher
