So I am about to take the plunge and get a new system. I want to get an E6600 and a ASUS 975X P5W DH Deluxe. I notice newegg sells refurbished versions of both for cheaper. I am kinda skeeved out by getting a refurbished proc and mobo but I also like to save money. What do you all think?

Understand that they usually don't come with any accessories..... Just as the MOBO.... No Wi Fi No Remote... nada no cables.. etc. etc.

The ASUS 965 P5B Deluxe Cannot be beat... and it sells brand new with all the accessories that the P5W DH has..... It overclocks better, and is less Money and is Highly Reccomended here on these forums...

Thanks for the advice, I did not know that about the accessories! Still, in a general sense (besides accessories and alternatives) are there going to be functional problems with a refurbished mobo and/or proc? Basically what I am asking is are they more likely to break or likely to be of lower quality in any way?

As far as a motherboard is concerned... I would not mess with it.... Now a Processor... it is one of the The few Components that I would Consider getting one.... all of these items are stuff that they have taken back on RMA...

If you do something like that be sure to have your motherboard there beforehand... the Warranty with NewEgg is very short.... but the Manufacturer places a 3 year warranty on their Product... You want to test it ASAP to make sure it is OK.....

Ok, thanks. That was kind of my intuition but they make it so cheap I was curious. I think I will shell out the extra cash for the real deal.

I've had good luck on "refurbished" or "white box" motherboards for some builds for some of my cheaper friends. No bum boards yet... not refurbs anyway.

Even the refurbished stuff has at least a 15 day warranty and usually stuff like that either works or it doesn't. Newegg gets a huge amount of returns from newbs who can't figure stuff out or had incompatible parts to begin with (like a Socket 939 cpu with an AM2 mobo, etc) and these newbs simply RMA items rather than admit what tards they are, lol. There is actual broken stuff returned too but if it is called "refurbished" it has been checked by the factory or a tech and should work as specified with no issue. "Open box" you are rolling the dice.

I wouldn't mess with the cpus. The price is only about $5 cheaper than new on average. The boards I bought all worked, but came with no accessories, except maybe the driver cd. Asus will sell you an accessory package for their boards for around $10-12 shipped. Some other manufacturers will sell you a backplate for $5 (asrock) to $12 (abit).

I got a refurb ASUS from Newegg and was initially thrilled to see it came with all the accessories but I can see they didn't do any real testing of the board before sending it out again, so back it goes.
Sometimes you get lucky with refurbs, sometimes you don't.

2 things in any system build you do not mess with ie.. get new MB and cpu - in the end the aggravaton ,rma, install issues, downtime etc may outweigh the cost savings - but thats just me
