refurb = used and maybe defective. so 15 percent restocking plus to ship it back may cost you time and $
my refurb mobo fried my power supply in a few days
this is one of the reason why refurbish is risky

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think most of them are worth it. The price isn't that much cheaper to make it worthwhile for me.

The one I got was $42 vs $54 shipped so I figgered it was worth it, especially on the all important percentage basis (22% mark down!). Even better, the local price is $60.

NewEgg just had a shvtload of returns for whatever reason. Definitely YMMV.... Buyer beware, they are not refurbished.

I think I bought at least 5 refurbished video cards, 4 motherboards and 4 CPUs from Newegg... I only got 1 bad video card (GeForce4 4200)and 1 bad motherboard (Abit NF7-S)... not bad, just need to pay shipping back to them to get refund plus 15% restocking fee...

YEP When you buy them you are testing their returns. I just bought two 4200s from them and both had artifacts. Going back tomorrow but a PIA.

From my understanding, Newegg will refund your return shipping if you ask them.

I've gotten many fantastic deals from Newegg. Probably the best one was $6 for a 256MB Nvidia 5600 video card. I don't know how this got priced so cheap, but it came in the full PNY case with all the extras, including a DVI to VGA adapter, Splinter Cell game and an S-video cable. It also had free shipping. I jumped when I saw it, figuring it was worth a $6 gamble. Best refurb I ever got.

The above deals don't come around very often. Out of probably 50 or 60 different refurbs, only about 5 have been outright duds. About five more had minor defects. The rest were 100% and many included the retail box and all the extras.

I always thought refurbish meant reconditioned or freshing up. Manufacturers check the parts so it meet specs. Items sold that were customer returns are open box items.

It's a little misleading to sell refurbish stuff that were never refurbished but "tested" by previous owner.

Just my take.

Never had a problem with newegg refurbs and I have bought a lot. Just don't expect the accessories.

I literally just got a sapphire 9800 pro refurb from them and am in the process of rmaing it to them now, it would not run any 3d apps or games or anything but would boot into windows.

I've had a few bad experiences with newegg refurbs, one GF4 died and my abit IC7-Max3 died as well, both refurbished.
