Personally, I would not purchase a refurbished monitor. Mainly because of the question, "what does refurbished mean." In some cases, it might mean that a major part was replaced. Maybe a new power supply was installed. Sometimes it probably means "we ran a rag soaked in Windex over it."
While we all would like a $999.00 "19" Iiyama, life ain't fair. I bought a brand new "17" ViewSonic E771 last Friday. It has a three-year warranty. True, it's ViewSonic's entry level monitor. What can I tell ya? I'm not a skinflint, I'm "incomely challenged." $209, plus tax. I strongly suggest NOT ordering a monitor that must be shipped to you. The shipping will be $40, even though this charge may be hidden, it's still there. Ever worked in a job handling stuff that's being shipped? Even the most sterling of character's patience can wear thin after doing this all day.
"Oopsie. I didn't mean to roll that box marked "Fragile" down the unending mountain of crap I gotta deal with." "Oh dear, now it rattles."
Much better to buy it locally! Ask them to plug it in for you, and turn it on. Be nice about this. Most people are content to hump it home. If it doesn't work...you get the idea.
The E771's seem to be slowly disappearing. The E773 may become ViewSonic's cheapest model. $259. But damn nice picture!
