Refusing to pay taxes as a form of protest

During the Vietnam War, some of those opposed to the war withheld a portion of their income taxes. They would estimate the proportion of their taxes used for the war, and not pay that portion. Most still paid the normal proportion of taxes that went to defense spending, but merely excluded what they calculated to be the proportion that went to the war specifically.

How do you feel about this practice? Should it be considered by activist dissidents today who are against the war in Iraq?

I'd be all for it if I could withhold MY tax money for worthless social programs I don't support.

This sound like the type of people who don't pay taxes because Ohio is not a state.

This is a bad reason for the anti-war types. It pays too well into right-wing hands.

Exactly. So, in short, it's ridiculous and unrealistic. I could be morally opposed to anything the gov't spends tax money on and pay none, even though I then go ahead and use the fire department, roads, etc.
