Reg MS optical wheel mouse

Hi,
Puchased an optical wheel mouse from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=008) and using a USB connection.

The red LED light at the tip(backside) glows continuosly. Is this a probem or the normal thing ?

The "butt LED" (as one of my friends calls it) glows all the time. It should go into power save mode in a few seconds if you don't move the mouse. Don't worry about it

Hi,
Though the mouse was not moved for the whole night(pc was on), the LED never seized to glow. It is in glowing in full intensity since i connected it. Is that a problem?

The back of mine never turns off either. I bought the natural keyboard + mouse combo from ZZF. The sensor of course lights up when it is moved, and does indeed dim when you stop moving it, but the rest stays on.

My old Intellimouse Explorer (the original one) used to shut off.. I think?

why would it be a problem if it dosent turn off? dont leds last 5 years or so anyway?

LED have atypical MTBF ~100k hours nominal.

I believe that particular mouse stays pretty bright all the time in the back.

My MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 stays lit all the time too. I think I read one time that it's a BIOS "feature." The PS/2 ports never get powered down so you can turn on the computer via keystroke or mouse movement if so desired.

What if your mouse is plugged into a USB port? There should be a way to shut the light off. My old Intellimouse Explorer just died (light went out) not even a year after I got it.

meh, my batteries have lasted over 6 months and have been on critically low for a cpl weeks
still running fine
