I've never watched this until just now. At first I was put off by season 1- slow pace and way too many characters thrown at once. I often compared it to how Breaking Bad is far superior in terms of 'sucking you in'.

But I finally got into it. Season 2 is a ballad of its own, a time piece if you will. One season, one complete story from start to finish. Well done. But I'm not here.

I'll get to the point of this thread: I am totally blown away to find out that Stringer Bell and McNulty of The Wire are actually Brits, with full-on British accents. Similar to House, I would've never guessed. Amazing acting.

What a trip.

Season one started so rough but I'm glad that I stuck with it. 3+4 are the best by far.

season 2 was the weakest. 3&4 just blow most things out of the water (actually, after finally finishing season 5 of Mad Men...I think I have finally found something that surpasses the Wire).

season 5 is very good, too. just too short.

Idris Elba on why he uses his American accent when talking to fans of "The Wire":

"Wherever I go the real hard-core drug dealers come up to me and confide in me. I almost feel guilty turning around and saying: 'Ello, mate. My name's Idris and I'm from London.' I don't want to break the illusion."

Season 2 is the worst season IMO. The whole shipyard line was just terrible.

I would have agreed with you after my first full viewing through all five seasons. After rewatching the series, season two wasn't as bad as I remembered it and really did a good job of expanding the scope of the series. Without season 2, 3 and 4 wouldn't have happened.

Still my least favorite season though.

The first four or five episodes of season one were a little slow for some big payoffs towards the end of the season. There were quite a bit of things in season two that were setups for payoffs in following seasons. Ballsy move IMO.

Season 1 is best, so if you can't finish it, it's probably not the show for you.

Perhaps Jersey Shore is more your speed.

yea no. Being introduced with 15 different characters off the bat and trying to decipher who's who isnt really the best introduction.

I think I made it through 6 episodes and I pretty much only got the main cop and the dude who's a gay gang banger that stuck in my mind and it never hooked me.

I keep giving it chances just because everyone seems to love it so much.

i really liked season 2. Union, ports, politics, drugs all parts of the show that other shows don't develop.
