If that is the case then I apologize. I tend to not get heavily involved in the attacking/defending of any one particular candidate/party. I was merely posting something positive of each as that is the theme of this thread. Also I did not say he always does what is right. I think he does what he thinks is best. I mean this in the context of overall good for the country. Like I said many won't agree with those decisions. This is the case with any political leader. Neither of our current candidates are perfect.

Yeah, the ultra religious right VS the extreme left.

Good job.

No, not really I don't. I would have said that 10 years ago, back when he was and did. Now he's a worthless Bush apologist, a liar, a spineless turd, an ass-kisser, etc.

Actually, he's Navy, similar to your Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy.

There are a lot of people I respect and admire that I do not want to be President. McCain just happens to be one of those.

Sadly, McCain somewhat embodies failed policies, during Vietnam he suffered as a POW which adds to his credibility of being willing to suffer in defense of bad public policy, but its still bad public policy that I do not care to follow.

In terms of standing up against special interests, campaign finance reform, being against torture, and similar admirable positions McCain took, it was newsworthy because McCain was the lone ranger in the GOP, but he found many allies in the democratic party where such stances are not newsworthy. Tell me again, why should I have any faith in a GOP that McCain cannot lead? When McCain is 90% McSame, the bad greatly outweighs the good.

As somebody who admired and supported him in 2000, I cannot agree with this. The man sold his soul, sold his every belief.

As Lieberman said, "God made only one JOhn McCain." His name is Chuck Hagel, unfortunately.

Anyone that impugned McCain's war record on this board should be excoriated.

I disagree severely with McCain and GHWB as politicians, but I have far more faith in their military discretion than I would with a Clinton or Obama or GWB, that either dodged the draft or never served. That some right wingers continue to mock Kerry's honorable service record is ugly and shameful.

If you think it's irrelevant, why did you post in the thread?

I don't think that was "throw up".

Sure, I respect him but I fail to see how being in a POW camp for five years qualifies you to be president.

Compared to Bush, Gore and Clinton we have really done good this time around.

In intellect Clinton stands heads above all of them.

Whether you agree with him not, it is widely acknowledged he is one of the brightest presidents we've had.
You may be right, but what did he do with all that talent? Use it to bag interns? That will be the story of Clinton's life. Amazing talent and skill wasted by his own personal failings.

Plus I was going talking about the personal stories of this years candidates compared to that of our previous ones:

Clinton the woman chaser.
Gore the Senators son.
Bush who perhaps got into the guard because of who his dad was.
Kerry the guy who went to Vietnam and then told made up stories about his fellow soldiers.
Edwards the cheater.

We have had a run of bad candidates recently. Nice to see a crop who are for the most part completely respectable and who will represent our country nicely.

kerry was actually mostly right about what happened there.

He's a great American hero, and after the failure of Bush, Cheney, and the rest, he'd be a welcome change....working in the Senate.

Why do we need a thread for people to admit McCain is a "great american". How do you answer this? Yeah he is... No he isn't... Yeah he is... No he isn't...

How stupid would it be if someone posted a "you gotta admit, Barack sure is a great American". What does it mean, what is the purpose, what does it add to the political discourse?

Well, I have to admit he did stand strong in his criticism of pork barrel politics when Wasilla, Alaska requested millions of dollars in federal earmarks when Sarah Palin was Mayor. And he used to be against those fiscally irresponsible bush tax cuts for the rich, before he was for them. And he used to be against torture too.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/...8sep03,0,5932587.story

"In 2001, McCain's list of spending that had been approved without the normal budget scrutiny included a $500,000 earmark for a public transportation project in Wasilla. The Arizona senator targeted $1 million in a 2002 spending bill for an emergency communications center in town -- one that local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion.

McCain also criticized $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was requested during Palin's tenure as mayor and cleared Congress soon after she left office in 2002. The funding was provided to help direct locally grown produce to schools, prisons and other government institutions, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group.

Wasilla received $11.9 million in earmarks from 2000 to 2003. The results of this spending are very apparent today. (The town also benefited from $15 million in federal funds to promote regional rail transportation.)

The community transit center is a landmark: a one-story, tile-fronted building with a drive-through garage. Its fleet of 10 buses provides service throughout the region. Mat-Su Community Transit Agency officials say the building was made possible with a combination of federal money and matching gifts from a private foundation."

McCain sacrificed more for his country than Obama? Not that this should decide your vote for leader of the free world, otherwise we'd always have war heros as presidents. But nonetheless, McCain did make a rare and amazing sacrifice, and lets be real here for a second, that goes beyond politics. It's part of what defines us as Americans.
