Running Win2KPro w/cable modem(RR), Linksys router, Linksys hub = 5 PC's. Have been using hypermart webhosting for my website - FREE! = too much ADS poppin-up ALL the time.

So, I went ahead and got this superb server (Xiatami) - FREE too!
My problem is : I am able to view my website both local intranet & internet on All my PC's but NO ONE ELSE can! outside of my network.

I asked register.com who set me up w/domain registration - their reply was to use their website (ADS & only 3 pages). I WOULD LIKE TO SERVE MY WEBSITE OFF OF MY OWN SERVER. 1 PC STRICKLY USED FOR THIS PURPOSE ONLY.

You need to find a dns service such as zoneedit. You would then change your name servers in you domain name account to zoneedits servers and enter your servers IP address into zoneedits dns records.

Register.com has me on these dns servers: dns39.register.com, dns40.register.com. Because I do not use their website portal - does this mean that I now need to accquire another source for dns service?

I'm sorry, but I am new at this. The Xitami Server that I'm using said: "works right out of the box no configuration needed" but does have areas of configuring if need be.
I've even used (tried) IIS5.0 from within Win2KPro same effect - "others can't see me".

With my Register.com accounts, it allows me to change the IP that the domain points to...just plug in your IP address in that area....

If your reply is supposed to be of help - why not be more specific? If I truly knew what I was doing, this post WOULD NOT BE HERE! Bulldoggy and as for your comment ("You lie so much you believe yourself.") it should be kept to yourself!

1. Go to zoneedit.com and create an account.

2. Go to register.com and change your DNS servers from the ones that register.com gave you to the zoneedit ones.

3. Edit your zoneedit.com account to point to your IP address if you have a static IP address and if you have a dynamic IP address, use their free dynamic DNS service.

No need to be rude towards me....I wrote that when I was very tired and dazed from a lot of nyquil. I thought it would be obvious of how to change the ip....I guess not. And the 'comment' "You lie so much you believe yourself." is from a Metallica song that I just happen to be fond of, it is a signature that gets applied to all my posts...

As for more help, this is all I can offer, a step by step of what I do:
1. Go to register.com
2. Sign in under "Manage My Account" on the left side
3. Enter my username/password/domain on the screen that comes up
4. Click on "Change IP" in the top left of the menu that comes up on the next page....(It is the first option)
5. On the next page, I click "Add IP"
6. On the next page, I enter "whatever-domain.com" in the Domain field and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the IP address field...(Of course, change xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to whatever your IP is.
7. Click Yes on "Is this information correct."
8. Accept it again on the page that comes next...
9. That is it, repeat as necessary, you can add subdomains too (whatever.whatever-domain.com) using the same method....it takes up to 24 hours for them to update your servers into working.

That's about it..

Q for you guys using register.com... What level of service did you buy to get the DNS hosting? I looked all over but couldn't find anything bout it.

All i did was purchase my domains for $35/yr and it shows up in the manage my account area.....limited dns hosting but it works.
