To illustrate how much 33% more GPU is with an overly simplified view, if you take an XBox One game at "900p" that's roughly 83% of 1080. We can assume this is applied to the width as well so you end up with 1600 x 900 vs 1920 x 1080.
Or 1,440,000 pix vs 2,073,600 or almost exactly 1/3rd more, all other factors held constant.
More significant to me however if you are going to be a pixel Nazi is all monitors and TVs are 1920x1080 native. I see native resolution mismatch as a far more serious issue than simply "zomg less pixelz" especially when you start inventing your own non standard random made up "modes" like 831.67p or whatever.
