I need to have an if statement where it'll check against a value in all cases for all letters. I flipped through a friends php book and found what i needed but it's not working.

i need something like:

if ($num == "[TtEeXxTt SsAaMmPpLlEe]")

that way when num has a value of "text sample" in any case for any letter i can perform a task.

You cannot use "==" for regular expression. What you need is a function that matches RE, such as "ereg" or "eregi" if you want to ignore the case. Check out the documentation on php.net There are other functions for RE in php, you will find them in "See Also" in the following pages:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.eregi.php
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.ereg.php

These functions would return FALSE if the input string does not match the patterns that you specified.
