Question Reinstalling in a New Machine By Moving Drive and Resetting, valid?

Im moving from an Intel to AMD platform and wondered if I can just unplug my m.2 drive from my current Intel box, plug it into my new AM4 motherboard, go straight into safe mode on boot and perform a full OS reset to return Win10 back to factory defaults allowing me to load new motherboard drivers etc etc?

I used to reinstall a lot but Win7 and now 10 have become so stable I only need to do it every couple of years when I upgrade hardware but rather than have to find instal media, find where i put my product key, wait all the time to install etc, moving the m.2 and resetting sounds like the path of least resistance here and wondered what you guys thought? It should just plug in and load into safemode despite it being a completely different mobo and platform right?

If you do a full OS reset, you're almost installing from install media anyway, surely?

I went from Intel to AMD x570 with a 3700x with a SATA SSD when I built my system in December 2019 just for giggles.

Just a regular boot, not to safe mode. Win 10 Pro loaded appropriate drivers to get the system up and running. I was surprised the system booted. Played around for an hour before loading system-specific drivers.

System ran great for 1.5 years before an update caused havoc that required a system repair.

Exactly my thoughts, I just wondered if others have done this and encountered any gotchas.

Lol lucky, I would rather reset to get rid of all the intel substructure but its nice to know it works. It wasnt like that 10+ years ago!

Yeah chances are, it would have caused some issues attempting this same move with Windows 7. Moving back further to Vista or even XP, forget about it.
Windows 10 seems to take it pretty well though, depending on platform and prior installations of hardware/chipsets.
I did this same thing and ran it for a bit before doing a fresh reinstall, went from an Intel 7700K to an AMD FX-6300(?) system without a hitch. I was surprised when it just worked, as I did it basically as an experiment like, "okay let's see how bad this screws itself trying to load/run" lol.
