i'm an atheist, because i do not believe in the existence and uniqueness of a higher inteligence.

i also hate all organized religions equally. just a bunch of really old political parties run by greedy, scared, selfish morons.

oh, and i'm tired of being pc and respectful of someones religion.
fvck your religion and yours and yours.
religion is just a cruch for idiots, that has been used to justify too many things.

But like I said, it usually is from the Bible.

Many people in the Old Testament and New Testament offended the religious leaders and those who followed them at the time when they claimed God spoke to them. By claiming God spoke to them the religious leaders felt belittled, angry, and jealous like Cain when his offer was refused.

Instead of humbling themselves and listening to those sent by God they acted out in the spirit of Cain and sought to kill those that claimed God talked to them since only they are allowed to be spoken to by God.

So has atheism. In fact, I think that I could use almost any moral to justify any number of wrong things. So, do you, as an atheist, have morals? If so, where did they come from? Not yourself, there are definite absolutes, such as don't murder. If humans did not come up with them, who did? Did they just happen? Oh, I remember, an invisible, undetectable force called morality bursted out of the big bang, and affects the universe. Too bad we can't remove it. So?...

Atheism as well. Communists justified killing/jailing religious people because they didn't think like them, even though they were part of the society just like them, hard working/law-obeying, etc.. Oppression of religion was one of reasons soviet union fell apart, and I believe china will fall for same reason. (tho it will probably be much bloodier, b/cuz religious ppl will demonstrate somewhat like MLK and chinese gov't will execute them etc..)

Sorry, I wasn't clear. People have been spoken to by God, but when you see God, you die. Personally, I think that since God's Word has been written, He has chosen to speak that way to them.

It is ironic though that in China muslim women have rights not seen in the rest of the world for hundreds of years.

Whew, wading through all the sniping back and forth, I almost forgot the original question.

Yes, by the common definition I am religious. I consider myself a Christian.

As to why, that's hard to define. Faith comes to different people in different ways. For me it started when I went to church after many years of not going. Things just seemed to make sense for me when I learned more about Jesus and God. I understand completely people who DON'T believe because I was one for a long time.

As far as free will I understand and agree completely. I was just pointing out it has absolutely nothing to do with random occurances whether evironmental or human.

On the rest, you need a reason for every occurance, I'm content believing there isn't one ...

If you are referring to seeing His face while in the flesh I do no disagree but maybe He will let you see His back.

Exodus 33

20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

People who think they talk to God really should seek medical help. Seriously, they clearly suffer from some time of mental illness. It is no different than a grown man having imaginary friends.

They should be rounded up and thrown in the psychiatric ward, after all if God exists why would He waste His time with such fools rather He would reveal Himself to the wise and intelligent of the world who can truly understand and appreciate Him.

I agree that anyone these days who say they speak to god directly needs help. Then again this stems from my beleif that Prophet Mohammed is the last prophet to receive revlations in a long line of prophets stemming all the way through Jesus, Joseph, Moses, Abraham and up to Adam (Though there is a debate whether Adam is a prophet or not I think the point was that he submitted to God). After him n one else receives revlations so I hesitate whenever someone says "Gold told me..."

I think God can affect our minds and emotions for sure...but I reject "But he SAIIIIID".

Anyways with your attitude oer 95% of this world has an illness. I'm not saying that because 95% of the world beleives in some form of divine or higher power that it is true...but rather to condem them all the way you do is ludicrous.

edit:

though you maybe on to something...the recent national geographic talked about how Love chemically is the same as a mental illness...perhaps it is the same with God A Chemical Imbalance that everyone seems to have~
The difference though is you aren't running around condeming love (or are you?! ) The edit was meant to be more light heated so I hope you were not offended

Not sure if passages relate to this exist in the Bible, but oh they are a plenty in the Quran Nice touch~

I'm religious about flossing my teeth... religious about making sure my children are safe and physically and mentally as sound as possible... religious about seeing to it my responsibilities have been met to the best of my ability.

Other than that, I'm very spiritual. I'm not into organized religion and churches... been there, done that, find it to be way too clique-ish and political for my tastes.

I believe that we are more than just our bodies.... there is an energy, a soul, a force within us that is immortal--- energy doesn't cease to exist, it changes form.

A good movie that explains much of how I see things is called "What The Bleep Do We Know?".

If you've watched it and agreed with it, then we are probably on the same page.

Any proof in these "Sprits" if not than it is just as delusional god believing in a sky fairy god.

It's about quantum physics, DVK.

You have energy... a person who exists and is composed of electrical and chemical impulses. What happens to that energy when it's capsule disintegrates?

Who needs proof? Either you believe you are more then the sum of your parts or you believe you are just another chemical reaction in a big, old universe. Take your pick.

God gave His word to the humans. We did not write it the way people usually write books. In any case, if you know anything about the Bible, you know that God made sure that there were no mistakes.

DVK916, I have not seen any opinion from you. You seem to come here to bash my belief, claim that for something to be real, it needs physical/logical proof? Is that what you think? I'd like to see something more substantial from you, lol, try to contribute.

Far too many people follow the religion they choose (or whatever religion chooses them) and not honest with themselves, just doesn't work for me. Deep down I don't believe and will not pretend to.

I agree. I think it's better for you to be you than to pretend to be something you're not, even if that means you don't believe in God. God understands more than anyone what has happened in your life and does take that into consideration.
