In fact, the farther away we have gotten from it, the worse things are getting. This isn't even debatable...it's like the sun rising in the East. A fact. The USA was founded on Christianity and its beliefs. That's what our laws are based on. It got us this far, and it'll get us a lot farther.

That said, my personal opinion is, my religion or lack of, is my business and not anyone else's. Including my family's.

IF you want to argue that the United States was founded on Christian principles, then I'd argue that those principles are not the same ways embraced by many (most) modern-day Christians.

The Christianity this country was founded on was one that valued individuals, valued people's right to make their own choices, and didn't try to force itself on everyone. It valued ideas that might have run contrary to its own belief and it created a country that was, at its best, a place for everyone. Of course it wasn't perfect (slavery), but it was a hell of a lot more tolerant than a lot of the crap that gets spewed today.

I agree, but I feel the same way about people who believe in human-initiated global warming.

Summarily shot.

Priests have no problem passing judgments on their followers....

I was born and raised catholic. Even went through confirmation. I started giving up on the church around the time all those priests were caught for molesting children. No way in hell did I want to be apart of a religion who tried to cover up such sickening acts.

Idiocy and closed mindedness is a mental illness which should be cleansed from society. Let each believe what he wants. It doesn't mean that people should berate each other about their beliefs but it does mean they can believe what you may not agree with. Welcome to the free world.

Hell isn't talked about much anymore because it's 'uncool' and a terrible and dreadful thing to think about. The fact of the matter is though, Hell is very real. If one does profess his/her sins to Jesus Christ and accept him as their saviour, they will go to Hell, simple as that. John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

I personally do not wish anyone to Hell, a place of darkness, despair, hate, loneliness. Please, stop by a Church at least one Sunday morning for service. You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain.

Pascal's wager has poor odds considering how many bets you'd have to place to get your bases covered.

What about all those people born before Jesus and Christanity existed? Do they go to hell simply because there was no way for them to know Christ's message?

Ah,Pascals Wager. You have nothing to lose if you believe in God, why not?

What about this, what if YOU are wrong. Why should I go to Christian church? I have nothing to lose by going to a... Scientology church (except my money and intelligence) and everything to gain (I dunno, hot chicks?), why not? Why is YOUR religion THE religion to believe in, in order to not go to hell?

This was a confusing Sunday school lesson. Jesus is God's wisdom in the flesh. God the father, God the son, and God the holy spirit have always existed as one, the Godhead. God's wisdom was prevalent on Earth before Christ to those who opened their hearts to Him.

That is untrue. My Christian way of life is full of happiness, fullness, hope, and all things that are good in the world. It is the way I choose to live and feel that it makes me a better person because of it.

Your life is lonely, full of hate and despair, because that is the way you choose it to be.

If I am wrong, I die and nothing happens. If I am right and I die, I go to heaven and live eternally at the side of my saviour Jesus Christ. As I said before, I have everything to gain and nothing to lose. In my mind, if I were a nonbeliever, I would have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Everything is to lose by not being a Christian. It's simple. A Christian dies and goes to Heaven. A nonbeliever dies and goes to Hell.

In this, I am not trying to speak down upon anyone or judge anyone. I am merely stating why I believe what I believe.

Wrong. If you're wrong and Islam is right, you're screwed. For that matter, if any other religion is right and you're wrong, you're screwed. You would have bet on the wrong horse, sided with the wrong man. It would be like spending your whole life constantly betting that Ivan Drago would defeat Rocky in Rocky IV only realize at the end poor Drago has sucked you dry, left you penniless and knew all along he was going to lose.

But I thought you had to accept Jesus to be saved? How can you accept something which hasn't yet existed? Take, for example, those poor misguided Greeks. Are you telling me Plato went to hell because he worshiped his plethora of Gods? He didn't know any better, but your book says he goes to hell. That doesn't make sense.

Me: Yeah for the live experience and cute girls. If anything, the lunatics at that church helped push me away from religion.

Dad: *jokingly* He's atheist. (Even though he's joking, I have a good feeling he thinks that way)

Aunt: You do know you and your girlfriend are going to hell right?

Me: So you are saying if we both live honorable and selfless lives, god won't accept us because we don't follow YOUR religion?

Mom: If you don't believe the bible, you guys are going to hell. Please don't scare me like this.

Me: I give up. You both call yourselves Christains, but you have no problem cussing and spewing hate towards others that don't share the same view as you. If there is a heaven, you guys surely would be last in line....... if you are even in it to begin with.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. All religion debates summed up in one sentence:

"My imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend."

"Hi God. I believe in you because it was the safer option. I can has Heaven now?"

Shouldn't you believe in some religion because it is the right one, not because it is "safer" than an alternative?
Maybe some other religion has a "hell" that makes the Christian Hell look like an eternal orgasm. Wouldn't it be safer to follow that other religion instead?

Some of Islam says that you should be peaceful.

Some of Christianity says women are inherently inferior, and that slavery is perfectly ok.

But of course, you can always pick and choose which parts you want to follow.

You missed the point. Millions of people lived before the Bible was written by people, so how do they know any of these things?

Edit: What I'm trying to say is that if the laws of the bible are what people are held to in order to go to heaven and that god applied those rules to people before the book existed, then how do you know that god didn't release the New New Testament 1,000 years from now and is now telling you that you must pray to Mecca three times a day to go to Heaven?

If the rules didn't apply, then how can God be so almighty and loving and yet let millions of people go straight to hell because he was still copy-editing the bible?
