In fact, the farther away we have gotten from it, the worse things are getting. This isn't even debatable...it's like the sun rising in the East. A fact. The USA was founded on Christianity and its beliefs. That's what our laws are based on. It got us this far, and it'll get us a lot farther.
That said, my personal opinion is, my religion or lack of, is my business and not anyone else's. Including my family's.
IF you want to argue that the United States was founded on Christian principles, then I'd argue that those principles are not the same ways embraced by many (most) modern-day Christians.
The Christianity this country was founded on was one that valued individuals, valued people's right to make their own choices, and didn't try to force itself on everyone. It valued ideas that might have run contrary to its own belief and it created a country that was, at its best, a place for everyone. Of course it wasn't perfect (slavery), but it was a hell of a lot more tolerant than a lot of the crap that gets spewed today.
