DINOSAURS...
where do they fit in with the bible and Christianity?

and if we ever have a extraterrestrial encounter...would that just kick the bible/God in the butt?

I remember my biology teacher, many years ago, talking about something in the Bible (I believe the gates of Babylon) that contained a picture of a bull, a lion and a 'dragon'. She stated that she thought that may have been an etch of a dinosaur. As far as the extraterrestrial goes, there is some passage that says "worlds were created beyond worlds", pretty much saying we are not alone. I know specifically in the Latter Day Saint faith that they believe in E.T.s. FWIW YMMV

The book of Job has a reference to a sea serpent, which could be some ancient reptile. It's my understanding that the Bible pretty much skips over the time of dinosaurs and focuses on the age of mankind.

Some people believe that the nephalim in the Noah story describes some sort of "alien encounter." I personally think that's a little nutty, but the story rings remarkably similar to the x-files story.

The Bible, in essence, is a history book. Records of Man kept by men. The words of God and Jesus Christ sited in the Bible are also records recorded by men. Those records serve as a testimony of the men and deciples who wrote and experienced them.

How do simple dragon pictures relate to thousands of different species of dinosaurs? Spanning over millions of years.
As jolly roger said the bible is a history book.
And we all know history is routinly twisted and rewritten to suppport a particular point of view.
The church turned into a pretty lucrative business at one point.
And has not changed for hundreds of years.

personally...i dont want to shape my life through religion...i feel so confined...but i have grown up around religion...i was a steady church goer for about a year...but i guess church and the bible couldnt persuade me...my dad is a heavy buddhist...but he never forced his beliefs upon me...i respect him for that. he let me find my own way. well...my way is...live my own life the way i want to...

heres my theory...no offense to anyone

at the time the bible was writen...there wasnt much technology or science(humans needed an answer for being there and then...so someone wrote a big story on how the universe and humans came about...and throughout those naive times...people followed this book...people searched for an answer, and people took the short cut by believing in a book. and dinosaurs was not known to man so they were not included...
and people of the east had their buddhism(which isnt really a "god" based religion, but rather a teaching of life...) and throughout time people have followed the bible and push away science. i personally believe in darwins theory of evolution...cause it makes sense.
and i live life by my own standards...if i dont believe in hell, then i wont go to hell...

what happens when we die? well...either we are reborn in to anything...doggy, cat, 1 celled organism...etc etc(we never know...kinda like a person with multiple personalities...schizophrenic...) or we just fall into eternal slumber...

heaven...sure it'll be nice...but i wouldnt want to follow life by a book just to have a ticket there...rather live my own life how i want to(within the boundaries of the law...sometimes...)
and i like to sleep in on sundays after a long nite of partying

well...thats just my thoughts on religion...
i respect everyones personal ideas and religious aspects, people live life differently...but i hate it when people knock on your door trying to make you follow a book or chase you down at an airport asking for donations...

Actually, there are some creatures - one is called the "behemoth" and the other is called the "leviathan." As Stark mentioned, these two references are found in the book of Job. Specific references (there are more than this) include

Job chapter 40: 15-24
Job chapter 41

These two creatures somewhat sound like dinosaurs - the first one could probably be those brontosauruses, the other - not sure. This is an arguable topic, so I'll leave it at that.

For an Bible answer, let's go back to the beginning - Genesis.

It doesn't give a very detailed answer since it is a synopsis of the preparation of earth for man's habitation. In Genesis 1:21, it states: "And God prodeeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth." That was on the fifth day (or creative period of which there is no mention of a day's length).

Yes, the Bible does speak of alien encounters with mankind. In fact, Genesis 6:2 speaks of inter-species marriage that produced giant human/materialized-angel hybreds called Nephilim.
