I am going to crank my air conditioner down to 60 degrees so I don't sweat during sex.

So does the city I live in. In fact, they passed an ordinance telling me what days of the week I can water my lawn and for how long.

Welcome to a drought year in SoCal...

What's wrong with conserving water?

PSA-Just because you can be a dickscarf doesn't mean you should be one.

The idea of saving water EVERYWHERE is just ridiculous. Here on the East Coast (mid-Atlantic to be more specific) we have enough water for everyone for quite some time. We had something like 15" of rain in the last 2-3 months, and crops are dying or rotting as a result of all the water. Why should we conserve??? It's not as if the water we save is going to be shipped to places that need it -- it's a regional resource.

However, for places like SoCal or the Southwest or even Atlanta, which hasn't seen rain in awhile, it makes sense to run conservation campaigns.

Move to New England right now, and nature will take care of watering your lawn, daily.

I'll pass. I grew up in New England...that's part of the reason I moved to SoCal.

Every gallon you waste, is a gallon that didn't need to go through the costly water treatment plant. Water conservation is just as important in areas with plenty of available water, because it reduces the need to continue to build larger facilities and the supporting infrastructure to meet increasing demands...pretty simple concept really

so you think the water you drink is just collected in a rain bowl and requires no processing to get from there to your tap? k

If it's so costly, why isn't the water bill higher?

If utilities are priced correctly then people will "waste" exactly as much as they can afford to waste.

Water Saving campaigns by local government are stupid. Namely Santa Clara County.

I save water. In fact, we use less than half of what they'd like us to use. Do we get anything? No. They raise our rates as a thank you.

Water rights should be a federal issue not a state one. It stupid when other states get flooded while California, Nevada, arizona and others are in need of water.

If God wanted me to conserve water, he wouldn't have given Oregon a massive snow pack last winter that filled all the reservoirs. If I don't use it it'll just evaporate anyway.

Why should it be a federal issue?

Actually all humans, not just those who have enlisted in the Navy.

No way. You choose to live in a stupid desert, why should the people living in normal states have to pay for your mistakes?

Oh, I agree....If water was priced to its real "value", conservation would be an easy sell. Thats not reality though, and because of heavy investment in water systems in the first half of the last century, munincipal water is damn cheap "today".....but those investments are crumbling like the bridges, and raising water rates is political suicide. Maitenance has been largely deferred and systems have been cobbled up for expansion. Putting heavier demands on those systems just puts them that much closer to D-day.

Water systems are also multi-use, single supply nightmare. ~95% of the water my Munincipal Plant produces is used for something other than drinking or perparing food, and yet we must treat 100% of it as if it were to be used for that purpose.

You think people are going to tolerate trace pharmaceuticals and heavy metals in their drinking water? You think that retrofiting RO filtration on water systems is going to be cheap? Or seperating drinking water from utilty water is going to be cheap? Its not, and the days of wasting resources is rapidly coming to a close.
