Remember all that cash, 600 million, found in Iraq?

It looks as if some GIs skimmed some off the top. LOL, I knew that was one carrot too big for someone not to try and take a bite out of.

Without in any way trying to defend their actions I think the temptation of that would overwhelm the vast majority of people. At the very least it would sure make you think twice about it.

At least they could of been smart about it and just taken a few bundles and stuck them in their bags. Trying to take a whole box is just asking for it. When I was in the military from 87' to 96' I made a total of $170,000 gross. That ain't crap.

HOw much would you have to earn for $600M not to be tempting?
Exactly. Unless you're truly starving or cannot meet even your basic necessities, theft becomes a matter of simple greed and greed is never satiated.

It's sort of a twist on the same theme found in music piracy: how much would record companies need to lower the cost of a CD in order to compete with "for free"?

Notice the smile fellas. Of course it's just plain poor character, and dumb too. I mean how exactly did they expect it to go un-noticed in such an enviroment of one duffel bag and many people around and subject to inspection.

I would like to see wages go up to at least 2500 a month entry level though. Not the ~930 it is now.

930 a month is not bad considering food, housing, medical, rent and technical training is covered.

This is funny. Someone at work was saying that they would have taken some of the money. I pointed out that you would get caught if you tried to steal a case. My co-worker countered that he would take as many bundles as he could stuff in his pockets. I replied, you could probably get away with that, but how do we know that they didn't do exactly that?

Smart GI: pack a couple of bundles . . . plus loose bills in every crevice available.

Dumb GI: grab all you can and pray . . .

Bingo. Like the idiot who mailed a gold plated AK-47 and pistol back to the States. Gee, do you THINK they're expecting weapons coming from the Middle East right now?!?

Of course, it's a far cry from WWII when departing GIs were allowed to bring back captured German weapons on the troop ships. I almost bought a Mauser with all original markings that a GI had brought back from France and then stuffed in the attic for 50+ years. I'm still kicking myself over passing that up!!

LOL, I have to agree.

When I first heard about the huge cash find, the first thought that crossed my mind was, if they say they found 600 million, I wonder how much there really was.

After I read this story, I thought it's too bad that these guys found so much cash. It was too much to try and get it all so they had to report it, which I'm sure put them under the microscope. If it was just a couple of million, they could have taken it all, never reported having found anything, and probably got away with it. Not that I condone this kind of behavior.

And guess which news organization (I suppose I hesitate using the word news organization to describe them, but hey) has a (now) ex-employee who stole some items from Saddam's palace.

Fox's message to their employees, "Stealing is bad. Lying as a journalist or giving away positions is okay!"

Which journalist are you talking about? Rick Leventhal?

On the radio, I heard that it was a Fox News Engineer.

It was the Fox news engineer that was trying to send some loot home. Its probably because he leans to the right.
