Effectiveness of a border wall has been proven throughout centuries as a tried and true method of keeping invaders out. I don't suspect such painfully obvious solutions to parade across the minds of liberals so you get a pass on not thinking of it first. However after being educated on the topic you should feel ashamed for intentionally ignoring these millennia old facts just for politics.

BUT MAH POLITICAS!

Most illegals come thru airports and overstay legal visas.

Airplanes easily fly over medieval walls.

Pretty much. As has been pointed out they were for it before it was Trumps. This is a battle of symbolism. There’s merits both for an against it but though are largely irrelevant for Trump and Dems. This is all about symbolism.

This again, I need to know do you think Democrats are too tough on immigration or too weak?

I don’t thing republicans or Democrats are doing a good job with immigration so that’s not an easy question to answer. There’s so many things that need fixing and nobody wants to actually do so.

Drugs and human trafficking coming over the border daily. Must be stopped.

Build ze Wall! Build ze Wall! Build ze Wall!

But considering that stuff comes through existing ports which already have walls, you really mean "close ze gates"

Found it, good analysis

https://www.npr.org/2019/01/08/6831...nce-on-a-border-wall-turning-into-a-liability

INSKEEP: It's a symbol.
KRIKORIAN: And, in fact - well, it's not just a symbol. I mean, we actually do need some more border barriers in various places. We have some. We need more. But it was a shorthand. It was a way to tell people - look; I'm not the usual lying politician. I'm actually serious about this. And it was effective as that. The problem is that now that, you know, the administration's been around for a couple of years, you have to follow through to some degree. And the Democrats have determined - accurately, I think - that the president's focus on the wall was a vulnerability, was an opportunity for the Democrats to deny him that in an attempt, basically, to show his impotence
INSKEEP: And now he is desperate. Or you fear he will be desperate to give up anything to get the wall?
KRIKORIAN: Yeah. I've always kind of worried about that, that he was going to give the Democrats far more than really was warranted in exchange for the wall. Because more border barriers, like I said, they're important. But there are other things that are more important, things like plugging loopholes in our asylum laws, E-Verify and what have you.
It's kind of interesting. The president, on the one hand, really is, I think, desperate to have a success here. But the other side is that the Democrats really do seem to be obsessed in denying him a win on this. And the question is, is that obsession almost Captain Ahab-like, from "Moby Dick," to get the orange whale? Is that going to be a bigger problem for them, or is the president's desperation to get the wall going to be the bigger issue?

I encourage you to read through or listen to it, it’s a good summation.

The obsession is Trump's. He was goaded into this by right wing talking heads & can't back down. Well not like he did wrt Syria, for example. I figure he should try it, anyway, because his voters will forgive him if there is no Wall. He can make it into another GOP perma-issue, like guns, abortion, Sharia law & all the rest. He can use it to play the chumps in 2020 & beyond.

Uhmm, no they haven’t been. More importantly actual experts on the issue say Trump’s proposed wall would be ineffective. The US government itself rates previous fencing as ineffective. It’s amusing watching you get angrier and angrier and resorting to big fonts, all caps, things like that though. I guess that’s what I should expect from someone who sided with the Nazis.

I’m sure this kind of juvenile ranting works on the_donald or wherever but it doesn’t work with me. The angrier you get, the more dumb insults you fling, the more I laugh.

They were ok with it as part of a grand comprehensive agreement that addressed many things such as immigration reform, DACA etc... hell they were ready to do it early last year but Trump took his ball and went home.

Context is important. They weren’t just for a wall because, wall. MAny democrats still hated that part but were willing to sacrifice for a much bigger deal.

Trump doesn’t want a big deal now. He just wants his wall.

So a self declared anti-immigrant conservative activist says the Democrats are to blame?
Wow. Shocking. So informative.

He probably thought he would own the libs by linking an NPR story because he assumed we're all as gullible as him

Senate GOP is looking decidedly uneasy these days. At least a good dozen of them indicate they'd vote to fund the agencies individually as the House is about to vote on. As the real pain starts to hit in the next week that figure is very likely to increase and could reach the magic number for override.

Trump should cave and soon before the Dems start making their own immigration demands.
