Well the next couple weeks should be REAL interesting I guess. Hoping that CBP Global Entry stays online for when I'm coming back into the country...

GlobalEntry worked fine for me on 1/1, but I was flying in to a smaller airport (RDU). I’m pretty sure you’ve already got delays at LAX, ATL, ORD and JFK.

So apparently the staff of the old USPS building and clocktower in DC (now part of Trump Hotel DC) has managed to find some "special secret money" in some "special fund" to keep them paid throughout the shutdown, so that the clock tower and building can remain open. It's only a random coincidence, certainly, that these are the only park officials to be paid and working throughout the shutdown and that their positions keeps property open that directly brings tourism money into the Trump Inc criminal cabal. As part of the property of the current Trump DC Hotel, this historic building remains separate, and under federal control...but of course it is a direct revenue generator for Trump. Can't keep the Saudi and Russian oligarchs bored during their stays at Orange Julius's, "Wink, Handshake, & a Briefcase B&B!"

LoL--the villainy just writes itself!

So take him seriously but not literally again?

What he really meant is that you taxpayers have gotta pay for it now because he lied before and is stuck against his base so pony up.

If Trump is saying he has never seen so much unity among Republicans it must mean a number of GOP members of the Senate about to bolt and push for an end to the shutdown. I wonder how many oral Mitch is giving right now to Senators to try and keep GOP Senators who are at risk in 2020 from going public with saying its time to end this farce.

Some are already there. The real public pain is going to start biting in the next week or two.

I'm sticking with the Republican Senators want Trump to use his Emergency powers so it can go to court and be found not to be an emergency. They definitely do not want another Obama to have that power.
They'll be able to still campaign on Democrats want open borders because they prevented the wall and will still be able to pass a spending resolution to open the Government. They'll win on everything if that happens. Plus status quo on immigration and DACA.

Letting the courts figure it out is Congress abdicating it's authority once again, and will only further weaken it. Congress is weak because the leadership has continually decided not to act.

Trump is now claiming he never said Mexico was going to pay for the wall in actual money. His campaign website disagrees.

It is a pretty big risk for them to take. What happens if the case goes before of of Trump's hand picked judges that were picked on the basis of loyalty and that the GOP has been shoved through primarily to rig the court system in their favor? That judge could find that The Constitution has no requirement for what is an 'emergency' and it can be anything the President says it it. Then they have just effectively handed a crown to the President with no real way to pull it back.

They still win in the short term and that is all most of these guys think of, particularly Republicans.

Air traffic controllers getting zero dollar paystubs:

Air traffic controllers, who are working through the government shutdown, won't be getting a paycheck for their last two weeks of work, their union confirmed Thursday morning.

Pay stubs reading a net pay of zero dollars were distributed Thursday morning, including one for a controller at a major air traffic control hub outside of Washington, D.C. shared with POLITICO

Pfft if we don’t need the TSA for airport security we don’t need the controllers for air safety. Pilots can just work that shit out amongst themselves in the air.

and carry guns to thwart terrorists!

*yes I know a Pilot for a real commercial airline
**no he doesn't want to carry a gun while being a pilot
***yes he is okay with an armed air Marshall

Trump has canceled his Davos trip and complained about the Democrats again.

Reality is that most of the security apparatus that would plan and execute such a trip are not being paid, including the Secret Service, so that presents some concerns.

Great, so call an emergency for this mirage.

The next Democrat President can call an emergency to enact medicare for all, and again to ban all fossil fuel due to climate change (this or something similar is possibly actually needed if we are going to save ourselves...but that's another discussion.)

The last thing we need is to give the Executive branch MORE power. But it's a Pandora's Box that could end up biting the GOP big time. As far as Trump's Wall goes, it might actually kill it off for good as it is disputed in the courts for years until everyone just forgets about it. In that regard it's probably a great thing that he goes through with it. Unfortunately it means we are one step closer to having a dictatorship.

Yeah about that... They sent a memo to WaPo outlining how they could cut a check.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/apps...to-pay-for-border-wall/2007/?tid=a_inl_manual

“It’s an easy decision for Mexico. Make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year.”

I don't think it's much of a risk for them personally. The deck will be so stacked against Democrats that the GoP will have secured minority rule. Even if the Dems ever take the white house and pull a stunt like this those same Trump picked judges chosen for their loyalty would probably just rule against a Democrat president doing the same thing. Rules for thee but not for me. The GoP absolutely would, and could, pull it off.

29 outrageous lines from Donald Trump's wild, impromptu, news conference on the White House lawn

"The buck stops with everybody."Lol..I think the problem with this is that the President left off a key word -- "else." The buck stops with everybody else. As in, the President takes no responsibility for mistakes or hard choices, so he passes every buck to anyone else, and he expects them to do what he can't.

Can you imagine someone you work with rambling on like this while giving a presentation in a company meeting? People would be looking at each other asking "Who hired this idiot?"

Yet, I give you The President of the United States of America.
