Ok, seriously, though I couldn't make anything of the original post, I opened the link he posted. Crappy sempron system at CompUSA free after rebates. $410 - $35 (instant) - $50 Mfr. rebate - $200 CompUSA rebate - $125 for signing your soul over to the devil... I mean, aol.

Edit: dates are jan 15th and 16th.

Ok here's the specs since they aren't in the OP:
Sempron 3200+
256 megs DDR RAM
CDRW/DVD reader combo drive
80 gig hdd
And it says it has a pci express slot (for potential graphics upgrades??)
No monitor

For $125 AR thats not too bad a system. If its just for someone who wants to check email and browse the web, its more than good enough. If you want to do anything more than that, you may want to get something a bit more powerful though.

if i am correct, the hottest thing about this system is that it is a 939 board... i don't know anywhere where you could get a 939 board with the setup it has to run that way... given, the board does not OC that easily with great success... but i will take it any day... you see some of us here don't live with pop and mum to waste our hard earned money on gaming systems exclusively!

Ok, I get everything in this thread, except for what SD is. Sounds like it is some kind of a hot deals website?

Anyhow, I got in on this last time for $200 plus tax, but if there are any in-stock on Sunday for $125+tax, I might consider picking up one or two more for other family members. Thanks for informing us of this deal, albeit in an extremely cryptic way.

What is the deal? What is an SR1610NX? What? Hello? Do you speak english?

edit: Thanks for posting digme. It looks hot except I'd definately skip the $125 for AOL -- I'd rather pay $125 for the system. So...

$409.99 - $35 instant - $50 Mfr rebate - $200 CompUSA rebate = $124.99 + tax on $409.99. So for me it would be $147.54 after tax and skipping the $125 AOL deal.

I need a desktop for my sister and this looks like the way to go. Thanks for posting! Seriously! That was one heck of a hard post to read but it's worth it. I wonder what the competition will be on Sunday morning.

yes, that's the site

"...sempron system at CompUSA free after rebates."

what?
can build a comparable windows xp machine with a socket 939 for less?
there are some things i don't necessarily like about it, but i think it's well worth $166 (if i get my rebate)

"For $125 AR thats not too bad a system. If its just for someone who wants to check email and browse the web, its more than good enough. If you want to do anything more than that, you may want to get something a bit more powerful though."

i have been playing half-life 2 at 1024x768 medium settings with the onboard video...

"The HP Compaq Presario SR1600NX series runs the gamut from decently equipped budget PCs to underpowered boxes that will likely be of no use to even the most undemanding user.
So, is he getting excited about the underpowered box?"

model number is 1610nx...

I "browse the web" just fine with an Athlon 600 with 512MB of ram and 32MB video card and Windows XP.

Celeste, you and the OP both have future careers as motherboard manual Japanese to English translators.

There was another thread about this, who knows why it was locked? By the way, do rebate at this link. Less pain; finally, it is ok to buy from Compusa again.

The similar deal for this weekend is as follows...

Compaq Presario SR1710NX + 17" Compaq CRT Monitor for $320 after Instant Savings and MIR

SR1710NX = $420 -50 Instant -50 MIR
17" CRT = $150 -50 MIR
Bundle = -100 MIR

Total = $570 -50 Instant -200 MIR = $320

I would provide links, but unfortunately, i can't seem to connect to www.compusa.com right now
