Figured as much. Thanks for the clarification.
Me personally? I don't give a shit if they full body scan me. I'm not a prude like that.

As for exposure to radiation? Really? I mean (again speaking ignorantly on the topic) how much radioation are they blasting you with? I could see if you flew 10 times a week or something, but a casual flyer? Meh...

Oh, no doubt the radiation is likely a non-issue, but there is more merit to the fear in that than from Wifi and cell phones. Like you said, if you're a frequent flyer it could add up though. I definitely take issue with them not being forthcoming about how much radiation each scan is exposing you to though. Likewise, who knows if they retain the images they obtain or anything like that.

Another issue is that in the cases where people refuse the body scanners, the TSA personnel have allegedly responded in a pretty hostile manner.

They're not very open about things, and they don't take kindly to people asking about it either, and so I think the scanners just underline the general feeling of hostility that people get from the TSA.

I've gone through the body scan, and I'm iffy. Its not that much of a hassle, but its not a pleasant experience. Personally, the hassle of flying (the TSA is just another point on the list) isn't worth it, so I'll be abstaining from it unless its really necessary.

They said that anybody entering and then refusing (or some weird permutation) can be arrested and fined up to $10,000.

Supposedly this is a "deterrent to terrorists".

How many terrorists do you think will be inconvenienced by this?

I joked about this years ago, but I am at the point where I feel like coming in in a bathrobe, speedo and sandals. Just get it over with FFS.

I wonder how much it really is considering the pilots and crewmember of the aircraft must have to go through that constantly

they're complaining too. they are worried about the accumulative effect of the radiation and why the hell not just trust the pilots in the first place, after all they are at the controls of the planes in the first place.

You would think that if the pilot wanted the pane to crash, he really would not need a bomb to do it.....

What happend to the Good Ole days when you could get a drunk pilot asleep at the helm!?!?!?

You do realize that the TSA, not the airlines, are the ones that require the “security”. Also the TSA IS a government agency supported by your tax dollars.

Security at airports is run by the TSA and is a government service supported by your tax dollars. Airlines, private companies, have no control over it.
I'm sure the TSA gets some federal tax dollars but I'd think most of their funding comes from Transportation Security Fees.

Perfect. Will ensure the line to go through the body scanner is shorter while the dumb asses get strip-searched.

why the fuck do people care about the full body scanners? its some fat dude/woman in another room, who doesn't know who you are or what you look like, checking for bad stuff. the people who are bitching about it, and then complaining about the pat down, should just be banned from flying. fucking idiots

how would you feel if that same person was peeking in your bathroom window looking at you getting ready to shower?

Travel and security lines are a nightmare as it is on that day. If any decent number of people pull this it's going to completely cripple the airports. People will miss flights in record numbers.

Also I like the other idea better. Give yourself a stiffy before you get the groin check or go through the scanner. If they're going to feel you up then give them something to feel.

I may not be the most attractive person, but letting someone else, even a complete stranger, see me naked is around the lowest of lowest concerns for me.

lmao @ enhanced pat down

I am going to get a raging hard on and start moaning the next time I fly, knowing my luck I'd get some closet 'mo for a TSA agent.

Yea lets just forget that they said the pictures could not be saved... they can.

Lets forget that they said the radiation is very low... in fact its about 2-4 times as much as they said.

Lets just forget about it and drive; I'm sure the airlines love that idea.

HR, you are a bit off on a number of things.

1. Profiling. It just does not work. The 9-11 hijackers were not in turbans or hajib's (is that the right word?) They were dressed in dockers and polo shirts. They would not have been profiled unless you stopped everyone that was not a true cracker.

Profiling doesn't have to mean not stopping anyone in a turban. The Israelis have been doing it quite effectively.

Where funding comes from for the TSA is not the issue. You are going to the airport to use a service (provided by the airline, not the TSA). You are consenting to the search (whether you like it or not) by choosing to fly on the airline.

We don't use things like "words" and "definitions" here in teh states.

"Profiling" here in the states means stopping anyone that looks different. Just like that one guy on NPR, saying he feels nervous about arab looking people in traditional garb at the airport.

THAT is what it will amount to.

BTW, the Israleis had one thing that worked really well. A bulletproof cockpit door they keep locked.
