In his view, liberty is the ability to deny others. Liberty is the ability to ignore US law. Liberty is basically the ability to place society in harms way.
He is what the Federalist Society is truly about.
A bag of dicks who pride themselves on crafting excellent arguments to sustain the worst in society.

Meanwhile people can just go fuck themselves and die. Typical.

What a fine gentleman to have sitting on the highest court.
Dark ages.
Maybe he needs to hook up with Pence... I have a feeling they both would like it.

Wait, so telling people to wear a mask because it protects OTHERS in society hurts individual liberty, AND allowing gay people to marry, which has ZERO effect on others in society is also harmful to liberty?

This guy is a hypocritical internally inconsistent clown. He should at least stand up and be honest. He believes that a certain subset of the population (religious folks) should be able to exert their will on the rest of society, including what other people do in the privacy of their own home.

He and his ilk are what is wrong with America.

It is really telling as to how utterly radical the courts have become where the idea of basic public health measures like mask wearing are prohibited by the constitution.

So basically he’s saying the government is nearly powerless to fight deadly infectious disease and this is by design. How stupid does he think we are?

I guess when the constitution says to provide for the general welfare of the United States, that meant something different back in the 1700’s. I’m guessing it meant military general and payment to said general. /eye roll.

Then again I guess it could be argued that righties/republicans and the like believe an unhealthy public is good for the US in general. Nothing shortsighted about that at all.

That he holds these beliefs is not a suprise based on what some of his opinions say. That he's reveling in them publicly indicates he thinks the calculus has changed about what he'll be able to do about precedents he hates is what people should be taking note of. If he's right America is in for some stuff.

"Whatever one may think about the COVID restrictions, we surely don’t want them to become a recurring feature after the pandemic has passed," said Alito "

Whatever you may think of the security restrictions, travel restrictions, wars, spying programs, expanded bureaucracy, after 9/11 we surely don’t want them to become a recurring feature!

oh wait..

also; a 100-year world-wide deadly pandemic that had the potential to kill multiple millions of americans has lead to dramatic actions? No shit!! What did he expect?? Seriously how dumb can you be and still be on the supreme court? "Geez, this world war 2 really has lead to a dramatic expansion of the military.. most concerning.." what a doofuz

I mean Biden won by around 5+ million votes so I'm not so sure of that.
Yeah, I really meant in Congress and Senate. Of course, the "people" voted for Dems, but the states and districts didn't. The problem is nearly half of Americans did vote for it, so the GOP will receive no punishment for their actions, again.

Random thoughts -

Just over half the votes went for Biden. Rounding off ridiculously to get to the point, let's say 80% of America is white. And let's the majority of the other 20% voted for Biden. It means something like 30 - 40% of the white vote was for Biden. Point is not the numbers specifically, but that the majority of white people I feel quite sure actually voted for Trump.

An idea I read for the Supreme Court is no more lifetime appointments. Each incoming president (twice, after 4 years wait, if he is reelected) gets to put a justice in place. Each time one goes in, one goes out. Not sure that could ever happen, but right now it sounds fantastic.

Yes, some sort of codified procedure instead of randomly waiting for people to die or retire would probably significantly help to reduce the fuckery around the court. The whole idea of lifetime appointment was so they would be above politics but 1) that's clearly untrue in practice and 2) a defined term of like 10 years or whatever with no possibility of reappointment would do the same.

Yeah, I'd like the court to be 11 members, with a 22 year term. Each president get a pick in the summer of their first and third year. At the end of their term, they drop down to appeals court, or they can retire. In the result of a death a new judge can finish out their term.

How about SCOTUS justices keep their opinions to themselves, and only reveal them when making decisions.

18 year tenure.

1 Justice put in place every 2 years.

Every president puts in 2 justices per 1 term won.

The option ive heard that I like best.

Each party appoints 5.
Those 10, then select 5 more and need unanimous approval.

This would mean we'd likely get fairly good decisions and the presidential election wouldn't be linked to the court in any way.

Lol! You silly person! You don't think man can corrupt absolutely everything? Then you don't know man! Where there is a will there is a way. It took 240 years for man to corrupt our setup but it did happen.

This proves we need 2 addition seats just to dilute this kind of stupidity.

BTW - Where was Alito's concern for religious freedom when Trump was enacting his Muslim ban? This idiot is so full of shit.

Alito voted to uphold Trump's Muslim ban. Muslims? Lock em up, ban them, screw their religion. Once in a 100 year pandemic? Meh!

It says something when you're more of a partisan hack than the guy who claimed Democrats sowed the wind and the country would reap the whirlwind.

He's still butthurt about gay marriage. His rationale for voting against it us that people will now call those who are against it bigots. Rights of gays to equal protection take a back seat to "rights" of Catholics to not be offended. Because it's gays' fault that Catholic church believes same sex relationship is only for priest and altar boy.
