here's the situation:
this is what we have (me and my brother)
a) 2 newish desktop identical hardware builds with 2 clean installs of vista ultimate.
b) 1 new laptop with vista business (his)
c) 1 old laptop with clean install of vista ultimate (mine, reinstalled this am)
d) my desktop & laptop behind router A; his desktop & laptop behind router B. router A and B are identical
e) my desktop succesfully connected to his laptop and desktop tuesday. my desktop successfully connected to this desktop wed, but got disconnected. now we cannot connect my desktop or laptop to his dekstop or laptop via remote assistance. we have not made any hardware or software changes.
f) he cannot connect to my desktop or laptop
g) he tried to connect to me while in safe mode with networking
h) he tried to connect to me only running MS services in msconfig.
i) we tried connecting by bypassing the router and connecting to the cable modem
j) we spent 4 hours on the phone with MS support last night
k) tier II support is supposed to call us back tongiht
l) before I delivered his desktop and laptop to him, he was able to connect to them both using his old winXP Pro desktop (last week)
m) we have tried by saving the remote assistance invitation file to a file and editing the settings to include the actual IP address, not the router address
n) we have tried by using win messenger
o) the error message we get says 'it failed because the other party may have closed the connection'
p) we have rebooted several times
q) firewalls and internet security (kaspersky 6) turned off.
r) the last win update was on 6/22, before we last had remote assistance working
does anyone have any other ideas?
