Remote Desktop Printing Problem

I have a user who connects to our Server 2003 SP2 box over the internet from a remote location to do some work, then print files files to their local printer. Through some trial an error we were able to get this to work (installed the same printer drivers on the server and did a registry edit). The user is now using a new box with Vista 32 installed. And again, the printers wont load. We get event id 1111 on the server. I've downloaded Vista drivers for the printer in question, but they wont install on Server 2003. Is there a way to make this work? I tried clicking on an installed Printer, and doing 'Additional Drivers', but that does let me specify Vista drivers.

What model printer?
Have you tried the Terminal Server printer redirection wizard?

HP LaserJet 5, 5P, 6P are pretty universal for BW laser printing. Our Terminal servers dont like IP printers, so we setup LPT redirects.


Look into the make a LPT1 printer with the same drivers, then make a net use batch file.
For example:
net use LPT1 /delete
net use LPT1 \\%Computername%\%printer share name% /persistent:yes

Have you tried the Terminal Server fallback driver option? This is a last resort option but it works OK.

A commercial product like Tricerat http://www.tricerat.com is a very good option when dealing with large numbers of non-TS compliant printers. I have a number of customers using this product with good success.

Still haven't got this to work. The Printers are a Konica Minolta 350, and an HP 4050. I've installed XP/2003 Konica drivers on the server (Vista drivers will not install). And I've installed the Universal HP printer driver. Still doesn't work. I've tried the 'Terminal Server printer redirect wizard' but it didn't work either. The Vista printer is not listed, and even if it was, all that wizard does is open the 'Additional Drivers' box that would let me install drivers for different OS's, but Vista is not one of them. I glanced at Tricerat but it doesn't list vista as a supported client OS.

Any help is appreciated.
