Remote Desktop Question

I've got 2 computers hooked up my network. The 2nd computer doesn't have a monitor, keyboard or mouse hooked into it. It does have a TV tuner in it though along with all the software needed to watch and record. Right now I can successfully log onto that computer though Remote Desktop. I can do just about anything but access the TV tuner programs, along with a few other programs. Is there a way I can get these programs to work? I've had this computer hooked up to a monitor and the programs work fine when using it, but when I'm logged in thogh remote desktop it won't work.

I don't think Remote Desktop lets you use Hardware accelerated programs through it. I have tried opening a game through RDP and get an error.

are you using remote assistance built into windows? I know there is other programs that will allow more so i'd look for something like that.

He is using Remote Desktop that is built into Windows XP MCE and Pro. Remote Assistance is almost the same though.

You could try NetMeeting's RDS feature, it's a literal logon as opposed to Remote Desktop's virtual logon. However, anything OpenGL will not be accelerated. Other programs requiring hardware acceleration will be noticably slower (tho' probably not as bad as 'net videoconferencing or something like that)

Start->Run->CONF <Enter>, setup wizard, then click Tools->Remote Desktop Sharing. From the access machine, launch NetMeeting, enter the remote machine IP running RDS, enter admin password, and you're good to go.

Can you even view video over the network if that is the ultimate goal? I know when using UltraVNC that video played on the server is just blank on the client viewer. I don't understand why your programs could not be accessed though. Perhaps try VNC to see if they can be and solve that first but another piece to the puzzle will still be necessary whether software or hardware.

My goal is to beable to launch the TV Guide grid and beable to select a show to record. I will give netmeeting a try but have never really used it before.

It doesn't seem that RDS is working though netmeeting either, I get the same errors as I did though windows RSD. Are there anymore options??

If you are merely trying to record shows and not actually watch them over the network, you can try using VNC. The quality will be low, but it should be enough for you to decide what to record.

If you are using Windows MCE you can set up Windows Messenger to allow you to set shows to record.

MCE requires a hardware MPEG tuner.
