Remote site VPN

Looking for a suggestion for a way to configure remote office VPN.

We have a few remote locations I'd like to give access to our network. I am currently running a VPN setup with Windows Server 2003 R2 RRAS. I've been using it with software clients and it works fine.

What I'd like to do is maybe get a low cost router that can connect to the VPN and stay established. Will this work? And can I get things like DHCP working so the remote sites have easy networking access?

Any suggestions on possible hardware that would work good? I'm thinking like a low cost linksys?

Edit: Would something like this be able to connect to our Microsoft RRAS VPN and remain established? and allow for an easy 'LAN' connection?

The linksys probably uses IPsec VPN connections and Microsoft RRAS uses PPTP VPN connections. I don't think it would work, but maybe I'm wrong.

Look into the PFSense firewall. I have a couple of them setup in a similar scenario as yours and running IPSec tunnels to remote offices has been ROCK solid for me. I have had tunnels with 150+ days of uptime working just like you described. Did not take too long to configure. The product is truly amazing... and best of all FREE!!!

You need to set up routed VPN to support this well. Routes will need to be added on both sides to handle the connection otherwise other device on the network may be unable to "get back to" the VPN tunnel.

RRAS can be setup for IPsec. MS of course recommends 2 2k3 servers with a RRAS routed tunnel configured between them.
