Look for a BIOS password reset jumper or unplug the computer completely and take out the battery for about 15-30 minutes. When you turn it back on, everything, including the BIOS password should be reset.

It will reset everything in the BIOS - time, date, any customized settings he may have set - memory timings, etc. Chances are he has all of those settings at their defaults anyway.

be causious when removing the cmos battery in certain proprietary machines. If it is a custom built machine, chances are you can just remove the battery.

if there is one, it may be easier to connect "clear cmos" pins with a jumper. this does exactly the same thing as removing the battery. more recent motherboards though seem to have decided to do away with the pins and just have two solder points which you can connect with a screwdriver flat head - unless this is outlined in the manual though I'd go for the removing battery option instead.

btw when you take out the battery, remember which way it is! putting it back in the wrong way round is likely a Bad Idea.

Anyway, once this bit is done, whichever way youve done it, on next boot get ready to hit DEL key (er, usually DEL) to enter bios, everything will be at the defaults so you'll probably have to set it to autodetect IDE devices (hard disk, cdrom) and can be worth having a flick through the other pages although unless its really old nothing else should need done except for setting the date/time again maybe.

On my board(epox 8rda+) it tells you to move the cmos jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for a few sec's and that resets it back to default.
