Removing LILO with winXP

Eh so my attempt to run Mandrake on my newest machine was unsucessful unfortunately seems like it happened because of my graphics card. Well I installed LILO booloader on the first partition of the HDD when I was installing Mandrake. But now I want to get rid of the bootloader through winXP. Anyone got any ideas on how I could do this?

Boot WinXP CD, goto recovery console and type FIXMBR

sorry for my inexperience with this but can you elaborate on recovery console? I also tried to run it from start up and bootloader ends up coming up before even after I change boot configuration settings to CD-ROM first.

you change your BIOS settings to boot from CD first

put in your windows xp cd

when prompted, hit enter to boot from cd

pick the "recovery console" option

type FIXMBR

Tried it... it never even gets to the CD it just runs right into bootloader even after I changed the order of booting.

Set your cd-rom to be the only device that boots, and make sure to disable "boot from other deivce".

how old is your motherboard? I've had problems with systems before that simply wouldn't boot from anything else when there was some kind of boot record on the hard drive. The only solution I ever found was to use another computer to clear the drive completely and then install from scratch. I hope you find something better, I'll be watching to find out

go up to sourceforge and grab smart boot disk manager, then install it on a floppy or the harddrive MBR. Then boot to it and then from it you can boot to the cdrom even if the BIOS doesn't want you to.

I personally would install it on a floppy, its a handy thing to have around
