Removing Windows2000 boot option

Ok, I'm sure there's a really simple answer for this, but I couldn't find anything obvious on the web.

Problem - I installed Win2K after a WinME install on a separate partition of my 20GB drive so that I could try both OS's simultaneously. For reasons too long and irrelevant to detail here, I killed the Win2k partition and just PM6'ed it back into original partition. However, I am still presented with the same dual-boot option whenever I start the computer. All I need to know is how to remove the Win2k option so it just goes straigt to WinME after I turn on the computer. I thought TweakUI had an option to do that, but the one I downloaded did not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

this depends on whether your Windows Millenium Boot disk (or emergency disk...whatever they call the floppy you can make) has the file "sys.com" on it. If it does, then you should be set. Just boot up with the Windows Millenium Boot disk. assuming it has "sys.com" on it, when it gets to the A: prompt after the floppy is done booting, type this:

Sys c: <hit enter>

That will wipe out the 2000 Boot menu and Win2K's control of your hard disk. Also, delete the following files from your c:\ folder:

Pagefile.sys, Boot.ini, Ntldr, Ntdetect .com, and Ntbootdd.sys (ntbootdd.sys might not be there).

There is another way to get it to boot straight to ME from the Win2K boot menu, but why have the boot menu at all, right?

If your ME floppy does NOT have sys.com on it, do NOT delete those files above until you can get ahold of a copy of sys.com. If you delete the files above first, you won't be able to boot at all. So make sure you run the "sys c:" (without the quotes) program and it tells you it's done its thing. After doing "sys c:", remove the floppy and try booting up. If it boots right to ME, THEN you can delete the files I mentioned above.

Yes it will. Just make a setup disk from control panel/add-remove programs/setup disk. Copy the file "sys.com" from the c:\windows\command folder to the setup disk in a:

Boot up with the setup disk to the dos prompt. Run "sys c:" without the quotes...
