I can't give you any specs, but I can confidently tell you why: each problem will be different enough, and sometimes may have plugins that have certain performance characteristics with certain hardware, that you will want to make what you plan to run on it known up front, just to be able to get useful advice, for the machines. Some may do well with AMD (yes, even today), some Hyperthreading (i5 v. i7), some may do better with many cores per box v. many boxes (desktop v. server sockets), etc..

Aside from that, get an unmanaged Netgear or Trendnet business GbE switch, with enough ports. Not one of those plastic jobs, but something like an GS108 or GS116; and a decent surge protector or UPS (UPS adds cost, but allows for nice shut downs, if you properly configure and test it). Switches are cheap enough that you can have a spare, in case it blows, or just get a Netgear that's on the shelf at Staples or BB, to easily get an exact replacement if needed, same-day.

Amd fx 8350 vs i7 4790k 3d rendering
I know Intel is best for speed but I don't, know the exact time difference for same scene

Anyone tested both ?

Is it OK for bulk purchase amd processors for 3d rendering farm

Harddrives, fans, and power supplies are the components most likely to die on you in a server. CPU + board + RAM could go for over a decade. If you are paranoid about the HSFs, replace those, though that diminishes the value proposition somewhat if they prove to be expensive to replace.

I would not worry too much about hardware failure in any of these used server products if your goal is to render on the cheap.

Hi render pocket,

How much will cost for that cabinet with cases

The cabinet is Ikea Helmer, it cost about $50 from Ikea you have to purchase it in order to put the Renderpockets inside. Renderpockets are just the cases that fit inside the Ikea Helmer.

The price for 1 renderpocket is about $80 (still working on prices), and if you purchase more than 3 there will be discount.

About Intel vs AMD, I prefer intel, but I am not the expert, I just never had experience with AMDs before.

You can buy that used server rack to save $100-200 per node, or you can have a brand new i7 render node for less than $800 if you build your own ikea helmer renderfarm. These are the specs I would recommend for renderpockets:

1. Intel i7-4770 3.4GHz 1150 84W - $310
2. Mini-ITX motherboard - $75
3. 16GB 240Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 PC3 12800 - $140
4. 64GB SATAIII - $50
5. SFX Form Factor PSU - $60
6. 2x60mm fans - about $20
7. Other (wires, fan grills, etc) ~ $50-100

Total: ~$700

Plus, you can disguise your renderfarm as a piece of furniture!

Point being you can predict your points of failure with a fair degree of accuracy. Most of the hardware on those used servers is just not going to die on you anytime soon.
