Renting a hotel room...

Do you have to be 18 to rent a hotel room? Furthermore if there is a said law, is it enforced? I'm just curious for no reason whatsoever.

It's not a law, but more hotel policy. You'd need a credit card in the name of the person who's renting it. A parent could rent a room for a child as long as the hotel doesn't find out.

I agree with pulse8, I'm not sure if it's the law but you'll definitely need a valid CC (not debit card but CC).

Why not call the hotel you're thinking about staying at and flat out asking them?

That way you will know for sure.

I have a CC but my parents would notice such a charge and I would get in neck deep sh!t if they saw something like that on my bill.

They'll charge to it if you want them to. They mainly just hang onto the number so that if you make phone calls, order movies or use the min-bar and duck out of the room without paying, they'll charge the card. If you don't want them to, when you check out, just tell them you'd like to pay cash.

I did this twice before I was 18: I just called and booked the room with my dad's CC over the phone, and when I checked in I just asked if I could pay cash (I looked like a fine, upstanding citizen in my X-files t-shirt and jeans, heh) for the room. Don't touch the mini-bar or TV, though, or they'll charge it. They might just ask you to pay for it when you check out, but better safe than sorry.
