Renting a PO Box...

I am wondering if anyone knows the procedure to rent a PO Box for an undetermined amount of time... the reason being, I'm in college, so my local address changes every three to nine months, and my home address (my mom's house) might be changing sometime soon, too... I figure a PO Box would be the easiest route to having a constant address for as long as I need it, to have all my bank statements, etc, mailed to.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost, etc?

(already checked out the USPS website...)

It's a couple bucks a month for a small one. Bonus = you get your mail by 11Am daily.

You might be able to find competitive prices at any sort of mailing store like a Mail Boxes Etc.

A PO Box from the USPS was $22 for 6 month but was just increased to $35 for 6 month.

I have rented a PO Box for the last 7 or so years from my local USPS office. The smallest size which holds letter sized envelopes and maybe one or two thin magazines costs around $35 for 6 months. I've found the next size up to be a better value, I don't have to go there and collect my mail as often and it holds quite a bit. I think it costs me $46 for 6 months, something like that. Last time I was there I pre-paid for 2 years and they had no problem with that.

You might want to look into getting a Mail Boxes Etc. box because FedEx/UPS/USPS delivers packages there all the time. So if you were to order some computer hardware which shipped UPS you could have it delivered there but I think their box rentals cost more.

Buy whichever holds the most mail for the least amount of money. I find the Mail Boxes Etc. solution appealing because they accept packages from ALL the major couriers and USPS, that's a nice advantage.

The postal service charges different rates for 'city' postal boxes vs. 'Rural' postal boxes.

I pay $20 per year for my 'Rural' postal box at the post office. I'm not sure why they still consider Battle Ground, WA rural, but they do.
I checked rates within vancouver - $60 per year minimum for the smallest box.

I pay around $45 a year for a box. I have had the same one since the late 70's. Of course back then it was my mom's but all my mail went there.

Ive been renting a USPS PO box for the past 7 months, and Im paying $32.50 every 6 months. Only disadvantage is that they dont accept UPS, FedEx, etc packages, but the local Mailboxes etc. wanted $60 every 3 months. Thats wayyyyy too expensive to have some computer parts shipped there every month or so
