As I was repairing my malfunctioning soyo, I have discovered the data ribbon has been torn on one side. It is a very flat kind, so I am not sure how I would go about repairing this. With soyo out of business, scavenging for spare parts is out of question.

Is there a relatively fail-proof way to patch this up (say, at least more so than just wrapping it around with electrical tape?)

What kind of ribbon cable? The 80/40 pin IDE cable or the 34 pin floppy drive cable? Or is it another one somewhere else?

80/40 IDE and 34 pin floppy cables are still everywhere and are cheap.

If this is some proprietary cable, try hitting up ebay.

no, its inside a monitor and a very flat type as I have mentioned. Seems pretty sturdy and resilient, I am kinda surprised it's actually damaged.

If it works, I'd tape it and let it be. If it's broken, I'm not sure. Those repair kits for rear defog in cars might work, or maybe a staple :^D

I did some googling and it appears you could use some silver epoxy / defog thingy to get it working, though none of that looked all that simple.

Get a Caig CircuitWorks pen, which contains conductive silver-laced ink made for circuit board repair. This works better than car rear window defroster repair epoxy and is more flexible. Do not try to solder the ribbon cable because it will melt, and the conductive tracks are much more delicate than copper traces on conventional circuit boards.

You can't repair it per se. Go to www.digikey.com
They have all sorts of cables and connectors.
You should be able to find a match. Buy new length of
cable and the connectors squeeze onto both ends.
Use a vise with smooth jaws or a wide jaw plier to crimp
the new connector.

konakona, were you able to find a replacement?

The OP hasn't posted here for 2 years, so it doesn't really matter.l
