I am tired of the ninny nanny government, sticking its nose where it does not belong. Its been 20+ years of nonsense. The law can be skirted but why do we have to bother? Now multiple shower head flows are gone and new homes have the crap in the plumbing! WTF?

You go somewhere and the showers suck. Bunch of piss poor stupid weak showers. You buy something new and everything is screwed with. The lights are dim because you cant see with 20 watt bulbs with too many shadows.

You have to use the toilet and flush 20 times. WTF?

Who came up with all these stupid ideas?

People too dumb to figure out how to remove a flow restrictor from a showerhead deserve a weak shower.

Its not that easy anymore. In an effort to avoid fines and please the public makers are now building 1.6-2.0 gpm shower head units with fancier implementations to make the restricted flow 'feel' better, like aeration.

I am fine with the situation with regards to the low flow shower heads. The vast majority don't know how to adjust / don't care and they shoulder the burden of shower water conservation. Those that do care can make adjustments and reap the joy of a full pressure shower. I once even Macgyvered a hotel shower head utilizing parts from the lamp as a make shift miniature pile driver to bore it out. The fact of the matter is that these restrictions help ensure the greedy few who still enjoy high pressure showers are able to.

I take baths now. Its bad enough I spend 1/3rd of my life asleep I don't need to spend the other 1/3rd in the shower trying to rinse off.

I'd say much like low flow toilets, it has less to do with the restriction and more to do with people buying the cheapest shower heads they can find.

I tried that but fell asleep in the tub.

Felix, what do you mean 'effort to please the public'? I thought that the public didn't want this based on your OP? So the public in general wants this?

I always "modify" my shower heads at home...and when I used to travel a lot, I carried a modified shower head and a couple of simple tools with me for use when I stayed more than a night in a motel.

This statement is confusing on many levels.

  • The topic of the thread is hostility to water conservation so the part about taking a bath sort of makes sense as the average bath uses 35 - 50 gallons vs 25 gallons for a 10 minute shower with a 2.5 gpm shower head. You would be fighting the man in this case.
  • You imply you don't wish to spend a long time rinsing off. If you take a bath you never actually rinse off and you exit the bath covered in an emulsion of filth, soap and oil. Have you given up on being clean?
  • You mentioned previously spending 1/3 of your life asleep and the "other third" rinsing off in the shower. This sort of leaves out the last 1/3. How is it spent? If you are wanting to spend less time getting clean, would taking a quick shower not free up more time then filling a tub and then bathing in it?

Don't quibble about the details. Just nod your head and smile.

You want to conserve water? Dont water the lawn.

This is ingenious but disingenuous. Getting caught with a modified shower head at the airport is akin to carrying a dirty bomb in a suitcase.

You would be prosecuted to fullest extent of environmental law.

Isn't the answer to use multiple shower heads? Ours has one from the ceiling, two on opposite walls and the 4 body sprayers on the sides, per person.

"No good?"
"It's disgusting. I'm sitting there in a tepid pool of my own filth. All kinds of microscopic parasites and organisms having sex all around me."
