Repeater questions.

My friend doesn't have internet at his house, so he uses a Netgear USB thing to connect to wi-fi signals near his house. Obviously the signal is very slow, so he says he wants a repeater but can't find one in any stores. I've looked on newegg for him and there are repeater hubs. How would you set up the repeater, and do you need a repeater cable. Or is the repeater cable a USB thing that would extend his signal by a bit. And is there anything else you'd need to know about repeaters/setting them up? Thanks.

So, basically he's leeching off of someone elses hard earned internet to download all his illegal material. Tell him to go get a job and not use other people as a protective barrier since the blame will land on their shoulders. :|

You know what I do if I find an unsecured network (and I have the time)? I'd connect to it, net send messages, print information on printers, and maybe even name files (if I can connect to their shared folders). Just to get the user a little more educated about people like him and what they could do.

No offense to you but I'm not going to help this person and I encourage others to follow suite.

uh, repeaters only help a little bit. they are only as fast as whatever weak signal is there. it's more or less the same as putting a 100mb router in front of a 56k modem line. your speed will not be any faster than 56k.

Excatly what conbon said it probably won't help much unless you can put the repeater somewhere between your friend's house and his neighour's. I think that's going to look a bit sus, imagine an AP sitting in the middle of the road!

I think there are pro equipments that you can use to pick up weak signal but then again if he can afford it tell him to get his own internet connection.

A repeater in the middle would half the available bandwidth.
