I can't remember ever having a vehicle I had to rebuilt a caliper on. If you bleed the brakes according to the manufacturers scheduled maintenance your calipers should last a long long time.
I had a vehicle that used plastic pistons and you had to rebuild the calipers everytime you messed with trying to push back those piston. After a brake job (done in the shop), the mechanic would always remind me about what a bitch it was to get those pistons back in their bores.
After any brake job, ALWAYS verify correct brake functioning and that goes particularly for correct caliper functioning involving correct piston retraction after brake pedal release.
