The Skinny: Replace your Microsoft mouse (intellimouse, wireless, usb, ps2, whatever) for FREE.

*** YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUPPLY YOUR SALES RECEIPT, RETURN YOUR OLD MOUSE, OR PAY ANY SHIPPING CHARGES. ***

Note: Refer to the warranty or call the toll free number if you have any questions about Microsoft's policy. Below I'll outline the information given to me over the phone by a Microsoft Supplemental Parts rep.

If you call Microsoft Supplemental Parts (800-360-7561 toll free USA & Canada) they will give you a fax (716-447-7330). All you have to do is fax them the following:

1) To: Microsoft Supplemental Parts (<- rep said this was important)
2) your first & last name
3) address
4) telephone number
5) email address
6) photocopy of the bottom of your mouse, with a setting clear and light enough to show the Product ID information on the mouse.

Two days ago I sent them faxes for 2 of my mice (personal, not business). I received the following today:

In this case do we even have to bother calling the number?

Can we just fax the info over?

Correct. You do not need to call, just fax info over. I provided phone number in case anyone wanted to make sure it wasnt a scam, or had questions about replacements for other MS hardware (joysticks, etc.).

enjoy!

Did you do it on the same mouse for a few times? Or you did it on different mice?

2 different mice. Same model (IntelliMouse Explorer USB and PS/2 Compatible), but they did have different Product ID numbers. They're replaceing it with the latest model 3.0.

Thanks, my optical mouse has been acting up for awhile now. I finally had to replace it with a non optical one. I'll be glad to get a replacement.

I work in the IS dept, and we've had about a 1/2 dozen of the original explorers go bad. If I remember correctly, there is a recall on them.

I assume that you all know you could be charged for mail fraud if you knowingly submit falsified evidance in this case.

Yo Wino,
Do you know if this works for an OEM mouse? My Explorer mouse died and I called MS about warranty info (not the replacement parts #) and was told that they couldn't honor warranty for an OEM mouse. Unfortunately I purchased it online from Altima Solutions who are apparently out of business. OEM is included in the number on the bottom of the mouse. Thanks.

Bring your mouse to kinko's and pay 10 cents for a copy, it doesn't need to be a scan, just a copy of it. I figure this is what I will do since I don't have a scanner.

I tried once with an OEM intellimouse optical and no, it did not work. Just my experience, YMMV.

I don't know about OEM mice. One of the mice they're replacing was from a special "limited edition" office xp pro upgrade bundle (direct from Microsoft bundle, not third party). I don't remember it saying OEM, it just had the little office logo on it.

I'd suggest faxing the info first and hoping for the best. If you don't get an email response back within 3 days, call the 800 number. My hold time was under 2 minutes at 10am CST to speak with a human.
