I had my Z560's go bad on me (Rear speakers stopped working), I called and they asked me to cut off the cord and send it back. Did they ask you to cut anything and send it back?

Thanks. I have one of the original Explorers that died about 6 months ago.

For some reason, I kept it around. I'm glad I did.

Don't really miss it much since I got my MX700 though. ;-)

I just sent a fax to get it replaced.

I'm not as fond of the newer ones. They seem smaller and lighter.

Wow. So they shipped you a whole new z560 speaker set? Sounds like an extremely hot deal considering most of the stuff from your original set probably still worked.

Alright virtualgames0 and Amputater, spill the beans on how to go about doing this. I'll go hunting for dead logitech mice and speakers at computer repair shops if I can get Logitec to replace them for new ones.

Actually, my rear speakers were dead, and when I called they required me to cut off the entire power cord from the back of the Sub-Woofer, therefore making the old set completely useless. Yes, I guess I can have 2 extra working speakers when the new set arrives and if it ever breaks down again in the future, I can just swap it with the old ones.

Why not just get an old extension cord and replace the cord you cut? Then you would have a kick ass 2.1 system.

Friend of mine was complaining about his mouse in IRC so i directed him to this thread. I've been pretty busy recently and hadn't visited AnandTech for a couple months, so you can imagine my surprise in seeing this thread I started way back in February sill going strong half a year later!

Glad to see so many of you were successful getting their defective mouse replaced. And to the thread-crappers that complained this post should have been shut down... poop on you!

To those that mentioned their replacements were backordered until December, mine was the same thing so i e-mailed Customer Support about it and believe it or not, the next day i got my replacement.

I think the order status page is messed up, mine was saying it'll be shipped on the day (each day) i checked the status of my replacement/order - in the 1 week i've been checking it, ship date changes to every single day of that week.

Finally it got changed to December.

well all i did was call them...
i went to logitech's website and i went to the contact logitech page...
called them up.. told them my mouse was broken... they said ok.. asked for my address.. and said the mouse will be there in a week.. you don't need to ship anything...
and a week later.. the mouse was delivered to my door...

I have replaced 2 mice in 5 years (Intellimouse),
they had bad (Left click) buttons. they would give you a double click instead of a single click.
I fixed the two old mice for spares.
So IF YOU CAN Solder / work with electronics.
Remove the pads at the bottom- remove the two screws pull up and back.
take the guts out - unsolder the two switches ( for the left & right buttons )
reverse the two switches (left one is now the right one) solder - put it all back together.

this works because the left button gets alot of use ,and the right one gets little .
the almost new switch is now on the left.
the noisy switch is now on the right ,double clicks on the right doesn't hurt anything.

BUT you have to be good at unsoldering - working with small crap and 30 - 45 minutes to kill.

when I say noisy ,I mean electrically. And If you screw it up ,Hay ,it was bad anyway.

Awesome! As my optical mice seem to fail on an annual basis, I'm going to resurrect my Microsoft one from three years ago.

Thanks for the information! I had an old IntelliMouse Explorer USB that would always double-click instead of single click, and I just called today and got the info needed to replace it (the same instructions as in the first post).

As an addendum to the first post (sorry if this already has been posted): You can also send all of the required info to:

MS Corporation
P.O. Box 1096
Buffalo, NY 14240-1096

P.S. - To those are all high and mighty about people abusing this service: If you are THAT concerned, take it up with Microsoft. Many of us spent good money on a MS mouse, and it's nice that they will provide this service for us to replace a faulty mouse. Until this thread, I had no idea I could even replace it, I threw away the box & warranty info years ago.

also, how do you know if your mouse is oem? does it say 'oem' somewhere on the bottom of mouse?

I don't think you can just call and not have to fax anything, but there is a snail mail address you can send the same info too.

Actually, it is possible to just call and not have to fax anything. I know because I've done it with my optical blue mouse I had. The person I was talking to was pretty clueless and shouldn't even have been working there. When I told her that I was holding a malfunctioning optical blue mouse she claimed that microsoft did not manufacture a "blue mouse". After some searching she finally said "oh there it is" so all I did was give her my product id and info. 3 weeks later I got a wireless optical blue mouse in the mail.
