Replaced Router, faster speed?

My speed tests were done on a wired connection. Never saw anything near 85 though. But if Comcast boosted me, it's possible they just recently did it.

If my connection felt slow, I'd run speedtest. If it was slow, I'd unplug modem and router for 5 min. Plug in modem, wait a few minutes then plug in router.

Comcast probably upped your speed. When i hooked up Comcast in 2011 we had a 15Mbps line. Then it went to 25Mbps, then 50Mbps, and now 125Mbps. I think the rumor is we will move to 250Mbps in 2017-2018.

I can't remember ever seeing a wireless router that didn't support 100 Base-T WAN/LAN, so I don't see how checking the router's specs would matter. FWIW, that router does support 100 Base-T WAN/LAN. It is also a wireless G router, so it couldn't have ever hit 30-35Mbps over wireless either, so we know he was using the wired connection for his speed tests which should have been capable of ~85Mbps.

Not on one of those old Broadcom routers. They may have had 10/100 WAN and LAN, but the chipset inside them (the puny 200Mhz MIPS CPU) just couldn't push the PPS.

Even now, modern routers have hardware-accelerated NAT. If they had to process packets on their CPU, they couldn't push gigabit speeds either.
