Ive had my G9X for years and love it. It's about time for a replacement however, and with it being out of production I wonder what's available to replace it.

I love the on the fly speed changes, and the custom LED color, as well as the two side buttons.

Anything out there that's just as high quality that retains these features?

On the same boat. I loved it so much, but it died some months back after a fantastic service of 5½ years (the double click on single click problem did drive me crazy though).
After going through a lot of mice I ended up buying the Kone Pure (laser obviously), and right now I feel there can't be a perfect follower of G9, I just love this mouse. Shape, size, weight, just suits me so well. However it's just 3 months, but I just have this confidence that this will last long enough. However I am not sold with their 'high quality material' tag, at least not till now, only time will prove that.
The only thing I miss from the G9 is the two-mode scroll wheel, and the scroll left/right click a little bit too. You might take a look at the Kone XTD too, if you are into custom weight and all that.

I also have been using a G9x for a while and share your views of it. About a month go I impulsively bought a G700s because Amazon was selling it for $50 (there is nothing wrong with my G9x).

The G700s is similar in many ways to the G9x. The width is about the same as the G9x with the wider cover but is substantially higher in the middle. The feel is the rougher texture of the G9x's smaller cover. Overall, the G700s is more comfortable (at least to me). The scroll wheel is larger and the amount of friction is adjustable.

Operationally, both seem about the same. The sensitivity can be changed just like the G9x, the difference being the buttons are larger and are relocated to the top front. Also the lights are blue instead of red and are on the side.

The G700s comes with one rechargeable AA battery so the mouse can be used cordless as well as with the cord. The cord comes in handy though when it forget to turn the mouse off and the battery partially discharges.

I replaced my g9x with a g500s and love it and for me better , the third side button is a plus
even as a web mouse have it set to close app. no corner x any more.
-feels close to my real old mx518 but with the side contours it picks up with finger tips.
-auto switch profiles works .fire up a game mouse buttons / speeds will switch to that games settings from default desk top settings then switch back after closing the game.

I've got one. Hate it. Lift off distance is like a foot. What do you like about it again?

I still have a few of the G9x's for general duty but have an MMO7 mouse as my main gaming mouse. Honestly, it has a lot more buttons, and the ability to create elaborate macros, but the built quality is horrible. If it breaks within the first 2 years, they replace it for free ... after that they will not sell parts or fix it at any cost. I guess they feel that a $150 mouse should not last over 2 years. The only problem I had with the G9x was breaking the rear button the shell, but they sold replacement shells really cheap and I always had a few spares.
