I need to change the graphics card in my sons pc as it is now the weakest link in the system. What is the best DirectX 9 Nvidia card with Bang for the buck or in my case bang for the pound. There are so many and the top range ones are a bit dear, about £100 to £150 max

well not familiar with the currency in your country but you best bet is to get a 5900 XT or SE if its in your price range. thier basically underclocked 5900's with no features taken out so you can OC them to get 5900U or 5950 performance

What unit is that Euros? If you can spend $170 (<-real money) go for a 5900XT/SE if you like the Nvidia drivers. Else you can aim for a 9700 Pro or 9600XT.

Anyway thanks for the input, seems the 5900xt is quite a good buy at the moment, it is at the top of my budget but I will shop around for the best price.

If you can afford going with a regular 5900, you may be better off, but the 5900XT/SE should be a pretty good upgrade for that budget.

You don't actually know what the Euro is do you? No need to insult a nation because of your failure to understand a currency introduced to simplify commerce.

u duffers...
1USD = apprx 1.8 pounds

so he means around 200 pounds

You can get a 5900NU for that price even in the UK I guess..You gotta look in the right place though. Dixons and other high street stores prolly too expensive. So youll have to look places to find a good deal...

150 pounds is 9800 pro territory, depending on availability there, but for nvidia stuff, the 5900xt or non-ultra like everyone else said.

These days the minimum you should be going for is a 9700NP or a 5900SE. If you don't you'll struggle to play the newest games decently.
