I've actually debated removing the shower from the adjacent bathroom (I've never used it), and walling off that area to create a space for stacking the washer and dryer. The best part is that given that it's a shower, I've already got water to the area and a drain for removing water.

Oh, that's pretty cool looking. Is it more reliable than the crimp rings?

Bathrooms add value to a house. A spacious laundry room, hardly. Dont know what your intentions are with this house...

My plumber seems to think so. Switched to this system, traveled to Minnesota to undergo a week's training from Uponor and doesnt install anything other pex system. A pretty picky guy in regards to what products he offers and detail obsessed so I think I can trust his judgement. I have 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchen and 2 laundry area done so I sure hope so!

The bathroom itself wouldn't go away, but just the shower. So, it'd go from a 3/4 bath, to a 1/2 bath. The thing is... that bathroom is downstairs, and the downstairs only has a single bedroom (used as a computer room), laundry area and the garage. So, the bathroom itself doesn't do much but service that one bedroom. It would make more sense if that area could be completely sectioned off to be more of its own living space.

What I'd like to do is find a place to add a (half) bathroom to the single story portion of the house. Right now, if you're on that level, which has the dining room and kitchen, you have to go upstairs to the area with 4 out of the five 5 bedrooms or downstairs. If my fireplace didn't have such a wide front face, I might be able to steal part of the family room to create a bathroom. Right now, I think I only have about 30" from the start of the brick fireplace to the wall. So, it's just not enough without modifying the fireplace (the front face, not the core).

I mean... weird stuff like this is bound to come up in an older home. These homes were designed for the time, which doesn't really match up well in all areas now.

You can get something for scrap metal but 3 years ago it was at all time highs. Now not so much. Electrical wire is even less even if copper unless you strip the insulation.
can shark bite fitting holdup on heating systems

You don't have a forced hot air or boiler system heating your house? If you had a boiler theres another unlimited hot water tank you can hook up to it that's much simpler and less expensive then those on demand units.

Personally I wouldn't use PEX for my drinking supply. Copper is a lot more I know and a little more involving to run.

The hot water tank removal is pretty straight forward. Shut off the supplies, drain the tank, cut and cap the supplies with Shark Bites, remove and cap the exhaust and haul that dead carcass out of there.
