Replacing windows in home

Hi, I am looking at double pane windows from Milgard for my house to replace old 1980s windows. Would they decrease noise significantly? From cars, motorcycles? If I sit in my backyard and talk on the phone, people can hear me inside my house. Does a quote of $14K sound about right for replacing all the windows in a 2 story house?

We had Simonton replacement vinyl windows installed in our house in CA in 2007. About 14 windows total, mix of sliders, single-hung, and half-moon, along with 2 sliding patio doors. Total was about $9,500.
They made an instant difference in the noise level from outside, plus, the low-E glass really made a difference in temperature control.

About 25 windows and 1 patio door. About 1/2 would be sliding open windows. How much of a difference in noise level did it make? 50% reduction?

Hard to quantify it...but it was very noticeable.

Boomer has it right. They really cut down outside noise. Milgard is a good brand.

As a realtor and in my area I typically hear $500 per window cost for mid grade windows. $14k for 25 windows doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.
I’m assuming the windows absolutely need to be replace like they are leaking or a bunch won’t open/close.
If your 80s windows still work I’d keep them, but certainly don’t keep them if you hate them it’s your house. I am saying don’t replace windows for energy savings, they will never recoup their cost in energy savings.
*maybe they would if you live in Alaska or the Caribbean.

I ordered Simonton years ago in my last house. They were great and I got my house covered for $7500. They blocked a little more sound, but the heat/cold was the biggest change.

Yes, go with Milgard, if in case you heard more noisy then check whether there are any gaps in the window and the following simple methods helps to avoid sound coming from outside of your home.
Hang curtains
Add extra layer of acrylic layer
Using professional panels
