Replay TV configuration

I just purchased the ReplayTV 5040 and I was going through it yesterday to set it up and I ran into a couple of questions. I was wondering if someone out there could answer these for me.

1. I have a television where I have to options for hooking it up. I can either go through the cable wire itself and then bring into my televsion or I can use the red, white, and yellow cables to hook it into my television and have cable wire go directly to the tv. which is better and why?

2. I was trying to hook the unit up to my router in what seems like it should be a really easy installation and it was not working. I am able to hook PCs up to the router and they work fine. I have double checked the cable and I know it is good. I have also verified that there are no filters on the router right now to block the unit from connecting. Any ideas?

1) If you use the RCA cables (red, white, yellow) to hook it up you still have to run the cable line into the replaytv. Sonicblue support says that is the better option for the picture, I haven't really tested it much either way.

2) Are you sure your home router gives out ip addresses, aka does it to DHCP, and is it turned on?

I am positive that my home router is set p for DHCP. Like I said I am able to connect any PC to it using DHCP and it works fine.

I am still not able to get this to work. I have a Dlink 614+ router setup. Do i need to do anything to open up ports for the replay tv? i have the default settings that came with the router set except i changed the ip address assigned to my internal network
i could really use some help
