I figure this source is at least as credible as worldnetdaily, newsmax, or the washington times.

BUSH'S BOOZE CRISIS

By JENNIFER LUCE and DON GENTILE

Faced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again, The National Enquirer can reveal.

Bush, who said he quit drinking the morning after his 40th birthday, has started boozing amid the Katrina catastrophe.

Family sources have told how the 59-year-old president was caught by First Lady Laura downing a shot of booze at their family ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he learned of the hurricane disaster.

His worried wife yelled at him: "Stop, George."

Anyone watching that 3rd debate would know he was off the wagon again.

And that jaw twitch of his, the blinking, the stammering.

It wasn't Katrina that prompted it. Bush thought aliens had landed near his ranch, until he was informed it was actually Cindy Sheehan, Moveon.org, and Code Pink.

I like the part where they mention he disappears for periods of time during stressful situations.

guess you don't know many alcoholics? if this is true (and it very well could be a load of complete and utter crap) he's in for some rough times. he's already inept enough - he doesn't need to be losing his battle with alcoholism at the same time.

A piece of gossip from the National Enquirer? Maybe the Bat-Boy and Michael Jackson forced him to drink!

By the way, where's that reputed high-moral fiber in regards to accurate journalistic pieces and distain for trollish threads now, con?

does it really matter if Bush starts drinking? he doesn't run the country anyways, it's his administration that takes care of things. he's merely a figurehead.

This is very interesting indeed. The Enquirer is clearly not what I'd consider a paragon of journalistic excellence, but it would be very surprising to me if they'd libel a sitting President. There is a lot of downside to getting on the wrong side of the entire Executive Branch of the United States government.

Actually it does matter, if true. I agree that the President isn't quite in complete charge of as much and everyone likes to think, but alcoholism is a huge problem with many, many consequences. I've no doubt that an experienced drunk could hide his affliction for a while, but Bush has 3 more years in office. That's quite a long stretch, and things most likely aren't going to get less stressful in that time.

But again, this is all hearsy and conjecture at this point.

Does it need to be said? It's the freakin' Enquirer for crying out loud.

I'm just going off what I've SEEN with MY OWN EYES when watching him speak.

True . . ask anyone, Democrat or rival Republican.

You people sure were rabid enough about it when a president's intern took a shot of something else

Anyway, I don't see it as a problem. There's no possible way in which he could be any worse as a president, so there's at least some comfort in that.

That's the thing. This administration, in particular, has shown such a willingness to ruin people's lives and eat its own that it would be an incredibly ballsy (and, IMO, stupid) move to libel President Bush.

I'm a little surprised they'd print this even if it's true, because they have a lot to lose. It's one thing for a blog to print this kind of stuff (e.g., the Capitol Hill Blue reports about President Bush's instability), but the Enquirer is one of the most-read publications on earth.

And a rival to Murdoch's rag tabloids as well. Might be seeing a pressured buy-out coming up, Anthrax anyone ?

What Bush really needs to do is get drunk, drive off a bridge, and kill a woman.. Then he will be well respected by the left.

america gets attacked again and he's passed out under his desk in the oval office. that would be a moment worth capturing, as he emerges from under the desk, bed hair, drooling, and falling all over his chair.
