http://www.rx7club.com/v-8-powered-rx-7s-299/93-rx7-fd-corner-weights-ls1-639302/That was in response to your example of an RX-7 with an LS engine. Of course there are ICE cars with excellent balance. I don't think anyone claimed that a Rotary was the only way to achieve that.
While the car did indeed gain some mass, the balance was not significantly made worse. Also, mass (weight) in itself is an intangible just like HP/L, though perhaps less so. Figures like acceleration, overall fuel efficiency, lateral acceleration, braking, etc. are what is directly perceptible to the driver. I guess in this type of situation, you would give up some lightness to increase your potential power output (or reliability, etc).
That displacement is proportional to size and mass, which clearly it isn't.What remarks? I mentioned the statistic, and that it was interesting. Nowhere did I, or anyone else, say anything different.
Maybe my point wasn't made clear. There are lots of types of engines out there, and only a few types are undergoing any sort of real development. Those engines that have been deemed unworthy of further time and money, were deemed so almost always for good reasons. The rotary may well end up a classic example of this.Beats me. But if someone were to design a unique/fun 2-stroke engine, I would certainly take interest.
Mazda's CEO thinks it's stupid right now. His opinion definitely trumps mine and yours. You might think it's "stupid", but that doesn't mean everyone else does... Or should.
